Experiment 1:- Average velocity

Objective:-To determine velocity time graph of motion.

Theory:-Average speed is total distance divided by the total time taken. Mathematically
expressed as

The total distance

Average speed ¿
The total time taken

S total
v av ¿
t total

Apparatus or material required:-

Trolley, stop watch, meter stick, flat table

Procedures

1. Adjust trolley to move in a straight line on a flat surface

2. Measure the distance of trolley
3. Take a time to travel a trolley
4. Record properly time taken and the distance travelled.

Question:-

1. Plot velocity versus time graph.

2. What do you conclude from the experiment?

Experiment title2: - Acceleration on an inclined plane

Objective of the experiment: - To do so, the distances they covered in successive time
intervals are measured.
Theory:-uniformly accelerated motion question

Apparatus and Materials:-

 Ball/wooden block/trolley/tin can
 Ramp,
 Meter stick.

Figure 3.1

5
Procedure:-
1. Measure distance, d along the ramp with arbitrary starting point.
2. Set up the ramp with h = 0.10 m above the table, (as shown in Figure 3.1)
3. starting with the ball/wooden block/trolley/cylinder at rest, use the stop watch to
measure.
4. Take 4 time measurements, record in data table. Cross out the highest and lowest times
and determine the average of the remaining four times. (Sum four times and divide by
four to fin

Question
1. Draw displacement versus graph of the motion.
2. What do you conclude from the experiment?

Experiment title 3:-Inertia
Objective of experiment:-Determining moment of inertia

Theory: - inertia is the tendency to resist in a state of motion

Material required:-

 Glass tumbler
 Small, stiff piece of cardboard
 Coins
 Ruler

Figure 4.8 Inertia at rest a, b, and c

Procedure 1: Refer Figure 4.8a

(a)Put a playing card on top of the plastic cup
(b)Put a coin on top of the card
(c) With a sharp flick, hit the card out from under the coin.

Question: - What happened to the coin? Explain your observation in terms of Newton’s
First law of motion.

7
Experiment title4:-Static friction and normal force
Objective of the experiment: - To show the relationship static friction and normal force.

Theory:-A static friction is resist the motion of the body and normal force is perpendicular to the
surface

Material required:-

 Four identical blocks of known mass

 A horizontal board
 A spring scale
 A graph paper

Procedure:-

1. Place one of the blocks on the board.

2. Attach the spring scale to the block, Figure 4.21a. Pull the block with an ever
increasing horizontal force until the block just begins to move. Take the reading of the
scale.
3. Increase the mass of the system by placing an identical block over the first block,
Figure 4.21b. Repeat step 2 and take the reading of the scale.

Figure 4.21

8
4. Repeat step 3 two more times first with three blocks and then with four blocks.

5. Prepare a table and fill in the scale readings and the corresponding masses used.
6. On a graph paper draw a graph of the reading of the scale versus the weight.
Draw a line of best fit and calculate the slope of the graph.

Question: - What is the relationship between the maximum magnitude of the force of static
friction and the magnitude of the normal force? Write this as a proportionality statement.

9
Experiment 5:- system of pulley
Objective of the experiment: - To determine force

Theory: - The purpose of simple machine is force multiply, speed multiply and direction
changer.

Apparatus: - fixed pulley movable pulley compound pulley

Procedures:-

1. Suspended pulley on the fixed bar

2. Tied a mass of the block on the tip
3. Exert applied force on the tip of the rope
4. Pull down the rope

What do you conclude from the experiment?

10
Experiment 6:- Simple pendulum
Objective:-To identify periodic motion.

Theory: - A motion that repeats itself over and over is referred to as periodic motion. The
beating of your heart, the ticking of a clock, and the movement of a child on as swing are
familiar examples.

Material Required:-

-String.

-Two standing.

-Mass of bob

Procedures:-

1. Tied the string with two stands.

2. Suspended the mass of the bob between two stands.
3. Swing the bob lift to right or right to lift.

Question .What do you conclude from the experiment?
