18. A binary alloy of M and N contains 56% solid phase and 44% of liquid phase. The composition of
solid phase and liquid phase are 28% N and 70% N respectively. What is the overall composition of
the alloy?
19. A binary alloy of composition 40% B, 60% A Contains two phases namely liquid and solid at a
particular temperature. The composition of solid phase is 23% and that of liquid phase is 68% B.
Estimate the amount of solid and liquid phases is the alloy.
20. Two metals A & B are used to form an alloy containing 75% A & 25% B. A melts at 600°C and B at
400°C. When alloyed together these metals form no compounds or solid solution, but form an
eutectic at 40% A & 60% B. Assume that the liquidus line are straight. The eutectic solidifies at
250°C. The specific gravity of A is 2.0 and that of B 7.0 . Find
a) The temperature at which the alloy will begin to crystallize from the melt and at which the melt
will be completely solid.
b) The percentage of eutectic in the alloy at room temperature.
c) The percentage of solid in the alloy at 300°C.
d) The specific gravity of the alloy.

23. Explain the various invariant reactions happening in Iron Carbon Diagram.
24. What are the Critical Temperatures of Steel?
25. Explain the Microstructure of Slowly Cooled Steels for various carbon percentages.
