(Caesar exits or steps aside.)
Cassius: Brutus, why do you let Caesar rise above us?
Brutus: I love Caesar, but I worry about Rome.
Cassius: Caesar is just a man, no better than us.
Brutus: What are you suggesting?
Cassius: That Rome should not be ruled by one proud man.
Brutus: I will think about what you have said.
Cassius (aside): Brutus will join us soon.

Caesar: What business brings you all before me?
Cassius: We beg you to listen.

(Conspirators move closer.)
Cassius: Then we act!
(Pretend stabbing begins.)
Caesar: Traitors!
(Looks at Brutus.)
Caesar: You too, Brutus? Then Caesar falls.
(Caesar falls.)
Brutus:. No man will rule as dictator of Rome, not even Caesar. Let us bathe our hands in his
blood. Romans, we did this for freedom, not hatred!
(Antony enters. Sees Caesar’s dead body.)
Antony: O mighty Caesar! What have they done?
Brutus: Do not fear us, Antony.
Antony: I only wish to bury Caesar… and remember him.
