Code Of Ethics for Professional
Teachers ARTICLE III: THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY
Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers (Article III)
refers to the part of the teachers’ ethical guidelines
that focuses on the teacher’s role in the
community.
It states that teachers are expected to:
Be active members of the community, not just
inside the classroom.
Show good moral character and
professionalism at all times.
Participate in activities that promote social,
cultural, and civic development
Act as role models who influence students and
society positively.
TEACHER AS ARTICLE III, Section 1 states that
the teacher is a facilitator of
FACILITATOR learning and the development of
OF LEARNING youth... therefore shall render the
best service by providing an
environment conducive for such
learning and growth.
Facilitator comes from the
word "facilitate" which
means to make something

Honor and Dignity he shall behave with honor and
dignity at all times and refrain from
such activities as gambling, smoking,
drunkenness, and other excesses,
much less illicit relations."
PURPOSE OF THE PROVISION:
• To earn social recognition and respect from the
community.
•To maintain a professional image and good
reputation.
• To serve as a positive example to students and
society.
• Teachers are role models so their actions carry as much weight
as their words. They must practice what they preach and avoid
vices; otherwise, they become hypocritical, lose credibility and
destroy the trust needed for learning.
•This gives them moral authority, the influence earned through
good character and integrity. If their actions contradict their
teachings, they lose this authority completely, becoming unable to
shape students' values and reduced to merely delivering
information.
•Society holds teachers to higher standards because they are
entrusted to mold the youth, so any mistake or misconduct is
strictly judged, often described as being "condemned without
trial".
•A teacher’s influence is permanent: honorable conduct leaves a
lifelong positive mark, while dishonorable behavior causes lasting
negative effects on reputation and students' values.

TEACHER’S ATTITUDE TOWARD LOCAL
CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
SECTION 4
The teachers should respect, understand, and
appreciate the local customs and traditions of
the community where they work. They must
avoid judging or criticizing the culture. A good
teacher maintains a balanced view—neither
believe their culture is superior nor inferior.
Since all cultures have both strengths and
weaknesses, teachers should promote positive
practices and carefully address negative ones
in a respectful way.
The Professional Teacher
and Information Update
Section 5 states that teachers are
mandated to “help the school inform
the community about the school’s work,
accomplishments, needs, and
problems.” It defines the professional
responsibility of teachers to serve as a
link between the school and the
community, ensuring that all relevant
information is shared openly and
accurately.

•Sharing information builds a
sense of ownership among
stakeholders, motivating them
to actively participate in
addressing the school’s
problems and supporting its
development.
The Professional Teacher and
Information Update
Who is the "Community"?
It includes both internal and external stakeholders.
•Internal stakeholders: Students, their parents, and school
teachers.
•External stakeholders: Other parents in the community,
barangay officials, government officials, non-government
organizations, government organizations,
alumni/alumnae, and retirees.
•Teachers are tasked with facilitating communication to
ensure transparency and keep all groups updated.
•Informed stakeholders are more likely to collaborate and
contribute to solving the school’s needs and challenges.
The Professional •Reporting on students’ academic awards,

Information Update
•Informing the public about facility repairs, lack
of learning materials, or student welfare issues
to address needs and problems.
•Inviting barangay officials to assist with school
safety programs or community projects.
•Reaching out to alumni for donations,
mentorship opportunities, or support in
upgrading school facilities.
•Updating parents and community members
about new policies, upcoming activities, or
changes in school operations.
The Parents-Teachers
Association
We have Parents' and Teachers'
Associations (PTA) in part every school.
Some private schools call it Home Schools
of Family Advisory Council. This is for internal
stakeholders only. A PTA is an association of
teachers and parents with children who are
enrolled in a school. It is a forum for
discussions on school problems and how
they can ve solved.
THE SCHOOL GOVERNING COUNCIL
Section 6 states that every teacher is
Intellectual Leader in the community,
especially in the barangay, and shall
welcome the opportunity to provide such
leadership when needed, to extend
counselling services, as appropriate, and
to actively be involved in matters affecting
the
welfare of the people.
THE PROFESSIONAL TEACHER AND GOVERNMENT
OFFICIALS AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL
Section 7. States that every teacher shall maintain
harmonious relationships with government officials and with
people individually or collectively. Teachers must be
respectful and professional in dealing with others, both
personally and officially. It is important for teachers to work
well with fellow professionals and maintain good relations
with everyone in the workplace and the community. Good
relationships help improve cooperation and make work more
effective.
The Professional Teacher
Does Not Use Position to
Proselyte SECTION 8
"A teacher possesses freedom
to attend church and worship
as appropriate, but shall not
use his position and influence
to proselyte others."
Section 8 states that teachers are free to practice
their own religion and worship, but must never use
their position and influence to proselyte or convert
others. Using professional authority for personal
religious agenda is highly unethical, as a teacher’s
power is meant solely for educational duties. This
rule is anchored on the 1987 Philippine Constitution
(Article II, Section 6), which guarantees freedom of
religion and prohibits imposing one’s faith on
others.
1987 Philippine Constitution,
Article II, Section 6
"No law shall be made respecting an
establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise
thereof. The free exercise and
enjoyment of religious profession
and worship, without discrimination
or preference, shall forever be
allowed."
• Respect the freedom of
belief of every individual.
• Separate personal faith
from professional duty.
•Never use your position
to influence others to
convert to your religion.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
Article III of the Code of Ethics for Professional
Teachers highlights the educator's role in the
community, engaging both internal stakeholders
(learners, parents, staff) and external stakeholders
(community leaders, organizations).
Key responsibilities include fostering a nurturing
environment for learners and taking initiative in
community affairs, while maintaining harmonious
relations for mutual school-community
development.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
Active communication regarding school
projects and accomplishments is essential
to maintain community involvement.
Professional conduct is paramount; teachers
must act with dignity at all times to uphold
their credibility and respect local culture, as
outlined in the code
