WHAT ARE PPE’S
The abbreviation PPE stands for personal protective equipment. PPE refers to protective
clothing for the eyes, head, ears, hands, respiratory system, body and feet. This equipment is
used to protect individuals from the risks of injury and infection also minimizing exposure to
chemical, biological and physical hazards. Personal protective equipment serves as the final
line of defense when engineering and administrative controls fail in reducing or eliminating
risks. PPE is to be the last level of defense to prevent occupational injuries, illnesses and
fatalities, but some businesses combined it with other control measures to ensure a safe and
healthy work environment.

Name, Use and photo of PPE
Hard hats- these PPE are designed to protect workers from head injuries caused by falling
objects, impacts and electrical hazards.
Safety boot/shoes- safety shoes are specifically designed to provide protection against a range
of potential foot injuries that can occur in various work environments.
5
Earmuffs- Earmuffs are a type of PPE that is used to protect the wearer’s ears from excessive
noise pollution, dust or temperature variations, especially cold.
Gloves- gloves are used to protect hands from chemicals, cuts, thermal hazards, mechanical
risks and more. Different types of gloves are used based on specific industry hazard.
Welding shields- used to protect the eyes, face and neck from the intense light, heat and
harmful radiation produced during welding.
6
Face masks- face masks are used to protect workers from inhaling hazardous substances,
airborne particles or contaminants. They prevent respiratory issues or other health concerns.
Respirators- Respirators are designed to protect workers from harmful airborne contaminants
such as dust, mist, fumes, gases, vapors and biological agents.
Face shields- Face shields are protective devices designed to cover the face, providing a
barrier against hazards such as flying objects, chemical splashes and infectious materials.
7
Reflective vest- used in various situations to enhance visibility and safety, particularly in low-
light conditions or high traffic environments.
Safety Harnesses -essential personal protective equipment designed to prevent falls and
minimize injuries when working at heights.
8
Safety signs
PROHIBITION SIGNS- Safety signs that indicate forbidden actions, behaviors or access in
specific areas. They are designed to ensure safety by warning people against certain
behaviors that could endanger themselves or others.
9
WARNING SIGN- These signs alert individuals to potential hazards or risks helping to
prevent accidents and ensure safety in various environments. They serve as a critical
communication tool in both public and private spaces, including roadways, workplaces and
health environments.
MANDATORY SIGNS- These are used to inform individuals about specific actions that
must be followed to ensure safety and compliance with health and safety regulations. They
serve as a reminder to take necessary precautions to protect oneself and others from potential
hazards.
EMERGENCY SIGNS- Crucial for guiding individuals during emergencies, providing clear
instructions and directing them to safety resources.
10
FLAMMABLE SIGNS- Flammable signs are warning signs that indicate the presence of
flammable gases, liquids or solids. They are essential in various settings including
workplaces, storage facilities and public areas to inform people of potential fire hazards.
EXPLOSIVE SIGNS- Safety indicators that alert workers and visitors to potential hazards
associated with explosive materials. They help communicate risks and promote safety
protocols to minimize accidents.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER SIGNS- These sighs are essential for indicating the location of fire
extinguishers and ensuring quick access during emergencies.
11
BIOHAZARD SIGNS- These signs indicate the presence of biological hazards helping to
protect individuals from exposure to infectious materials and hazardous biological agents.
RADIOACTIVE SIGNS- These signs help individuals locate radioactive areas and inform
them about necessary precautions such as personal protective equipment required to enter the
area.
12
HIGH VOLTAGE SIGNS- These indicate areas where electrical currents exceed 600 volts.
These signs are designed to last over a decade outdoors making them a critical component for
workplace safety.
