STEP 1 (Driver installation)
Windows XP Driver Installation Guide
This document describes the installation procedure of the FT8U232AM
evaluation kit using FTDI’s VCP drivers under Windows XP and information on
what to look for if installation doesn't go as planned. The driver installation is a
two stage process, firstly the USB section of the driver is loaded followed by the
COM Port driver.
The CD-ROM provided with the kit should be inserted into the CD-ROM drive
of the PC prior to plugging in the device. Plug in your device. This should bring
up a "Found New Hardware" help bubble and launch the Found New Hardware
Wizard. These should describe the Hardware as "US232 USB-Serial Cable".
Make certain that the "Install the software automatically" option is checked.
Click on "Next" to continue.
You may see the above screen during the installation process as Windows XP
copies the files from the CD. No user intervention is required.
The USB Drivers have now been installed - click the "Finish" button finish the
USB driver installation and to install the COM Port drivers. The Found New
Hardware wizard will re-launch for the second part of the driver installation as
shown below.
After the driver installation is complete, this screen will appear. Click on
"Finish" to complete the installation. This time, the Hardware Wizard will display
"USB Serial Port" as being the software it wants to install.
Make certain that the "Install the software automatically" option is checked.
Click on "Next" to continue.
Click the "Finish" button to complete the second part of the driver installation.
The Help bubble should inform you that the new hardware is installed and ready
to use.

(WINDOWS 7 and WINDOWS 8 might already have the drivers installed
on your PC. Then Windows will just say the driver was successfully
installed and then you might go to step 2.
If not then you should manually point out the driver location on CD it in
folder “DRIVE” !
Win8 PC:
When the cable is plugged into USB port, your PC will say “found new
hardware”. Select “yes, this and everytime…….”
On the next pop-up screen select “install from a list or specific location
(advanced)” (here you want to manually install the files in the folder
“DRIVE” Browse and select folder named “DRIVE” on your CD. This will
load the required drivers to your PC for WinXP, VISAT, Win7, and Win 8
(32-64 bit). Follow the prompts to complete the installation.)
((For any driver problems you can try installing the newest driver from folder Driver
collection->driver new v 2.08.30))
STEP 2 (setting com port to number 1 (COM1)) !
(It must be set to number 1 in order for YAMAHA software to
work !)
1. (Windows XP, Vista, and 7) To set the COM PORT to 1, at the
bottom left of your desktop screen select the START icon, then
RIGHT click on "MY COMPUTER/COMPUTER" then select
"PROPERTIES". Then select HARDWARE/DEVICE MANAGER". Scroll
down and select PORTS(COM & LPT)
Then select USB Serial Port (COM?)
(it may be com1,com2,com3,com4,etc .... .).
Right click “PROPERITIES”
choose “PORT SETTINGS”
then click ADVANCED.
Here you must set the COM PORT number to 1, then select OK.
Follow the prompts to complete and then double check to
make sure the cable is set to COM1.
(Windows 8) Goto your Desktop and move the cursor to the top
or bottom right and select the SETTINGS icon and then "PC INFO".
Then select "DEVICE MANAGER". Scroll down and select
PORTS(COM7) ((COM?) may say com2,com3,com4,etc .....). Select
PORT SETTINGS and then ADVANCED. Here you must set the COM
PORT to 1, then select OK. Follow the prompts to complete and then
double check to make sure the cable is set to COM 1.
If you have problems with the driver installation, with the disk in
the CD-ROM and the cable plugged into the USB port, RlGHT click
USB SERIAL PORT(COM1) in the Device Manager and select
"UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE" and select install manually. Browse
your computer to find and select "DRIVE". Follow the
prompts to complete the driver update.
Windows may try and reassign the COM PORT setting to a
different number when the cable is disconnected, so you may
have to repeat STEP 2 to set it back to COM 1.
STEP 3 (YAMAHA SOFTWARE INSTALLATION)
Search your CD-ROM drive and select the program "YDS SETUP
PROGRAM". Follow the setup instructions and your software is ready
to use. (Windows 8) The Yamaha program short-cut will be on the
Windows 8 Start screen. You can run the program from there. When
you first start the Yamaha program, you must FIRST select
"UPDATE DATA FILES or F1 and restart the program.
The software has a user
manual on the disk in Adobe Acrobat format.
** The Interface cable must be connected to your computer with the
ignition in the ON position and the COM PORT set to 1 for it to
communicate with the Yamaha software. ** (Waverunners and
Jetboats usually automatically shut the ignition off after 10-15
seconds, you will have to tap the start button to keep the ignition
ON.**
