GET203 ASSIGNMENT.
Objective: To understand extruded surface, loft surface, boundary surface, filled
surface, revolve surface and trim surface.
Approach: Model a car hood
Note: If you have problems with selecting edges when performing a boundary surface
operation use selection filter to prioritize edge selection. Further queries, let me know
on time.
Instructions
1. Begin with the base. Create the sketch below on the top plane.
2. Use extruded surface to extrude the rectangle by 5mm.
3. Create two planes referenced from the top plane, Plane1 is 300mm from top plane
and plane2 is 500mm from top plane.
4. Sketch a 1100mmby 700mm rectangle with a 150mm offset from the origin as
shown below on plane1.
5. Sketch a 1000mm by 600mm rectangle with a 150mm offset from the origin as
shown below on plane2.
6. Use surface loft to create a body for the hood as shown below.
7. Choose front plane and sketch the line and fillet with the given dimensions as
shown below.
8. Use Boundary surface to create the rear side of the car hood by selecting the edge
of the base below and the lofted hood above, then select the line you just sketched
as the direction.
9. Choose front plane again and sketch the style spline with the given dimensions as
shown below.
10. Create the front hood using boundary surface as before. Your hood should look
like this by now. Note: Image is stretched.
11. Choose right plane and use spline to create a sketch as shown with the correct
dimensions. You only need on sketch per side hence you can ignore the spline on
the right side.
12. Use boundary surface to create the side of the hood by selecting the top edge of
the base below and the bottom edge of the lofted surface above, use the spline you
just sketched as direction line.
13. Repeat 12 above for the right side or the other side. The car hood should look like
the image below by now.
14. Use filled surface to patch the holes on the surface on both sides. Select the edges
and set the properties as shown below: tangent, merge result, etc.
15. Choose front plane sketch the spline and make it tangent to both edges of the hood
as shown below.
16. Use boundary surface to make the roof while using the spline as direction. Also
adjust the connectors by 65mm from both edges, set the connectors exactly as
shown; tangency to face normal to profile and tangency to face. Click the green
check mark.
17. Use filled surface to patch both sides of separately. Select all the edges and set the
edge option to tangent as shown. Remember to check fix up boundary and merge
result.
18. Use filled surface to cover the bottom. Now select front plane and draw the sketch
shown below. A three-point arc was used in this sketch.
19. Use trim surface to remove the surface cut by the arc. The property manager of
surface trim during selection is shown below. Remember to check that it’s remove
selection option that chosen else you have the opposite of what you desire.
20. Repeat steps 17 – 19 for the other side of the car hood.
21. Choose top plane and create the sketch as shown below.
22. Use Trim surface to remove the bottom surface as shown below, be careful to also
select the base part too. The surface to be removed is coloured purple.
23. Create a 20mm radius fillet for the edges to the lofted surface.
24.
The final model should look like the image below.
2. Model a cup using only revolve surface.
Good Luck!
