Reflective Activity 2

1) If you have ever applied ALMs (active learning methods) such as pair work, role play,
jigsaw, etc., give examples of those which you most frequently used.

Active learning methods (ALMs) are frequently applied to improve student engagement, with the
most commonly used techniques including pair work, group discussions, role-playing, and
brainstorming.

I have applied several active learning methods in my teaching and learning process at class room
session. The ones I most frequently use are pair work, group discussion, question and answer, and
problem based learning.

2) What do you think are the challenges in applying the ALMs?

 The main challenges in applying ALMs are:
 large Class size (number of students in the class)
 Limited time and resource
 Students’ lack of experience with active learning
 Course contents (many chapters covered in the course)
 Instructors and students awareness to active learning methods
 Assessment focused mainly on exams rather than participation
3) What strategies can you think of to overcome the challenges?
 To overcome these challenges, I can use the following strategies:
 Create awareness for my students about active learning methods.
 Encouraging participation through motivation and feedback
 Using group leaders to manage large classes
 The curriculum should be prepared based on the active learning method
 Aligning assessment with active learning methods
 Use proper time management mechanism
 Asking facilities and resources for concerned management staffs
 Mixing the groups who are slow & medium learners with fast learners.

Reflective Activity 6

1) List three important things you have learnt about managing your time and reflect on
them in relation to your personal practice.

Time Management plays a very important role in our organizations and our personal lives. It allows
individuals to assign specific time slots to activities as per their importance.

Three important things I have learned about managing my time and reflection on my
personal practice

 One important thing I have learned about time management is that prioritizing tasks is
critical. So you should Use your time first for important and urgent activities in my
personal practice, I sometimes spent time on less important and not urgent activities,
which affected my productivity. Learning to set priorities has helped me use my time and
resource more effectively and efficiently.
 The second important lesson I have learned is that preparing a plan is very important so
as to saves our time and to implement our activity easily. Previously, I usually worked
without proper plan, which leads me to delays and unfinished tasks. Now, when I prepare
a lesson plan, I feel more organized and confident in handling my activities.
  The third thing I learned about managing my time is that delaying tasks increases stress
and reduces the quality of work in my personal experience, procrastination caused me to
rush important activities. Being aware of this habit has encouraged me to deliver my work
on time.

2) How do you plan to improve your time management and be productive in your activities?
 I plan to choose important activities and allocate enough time for important and urgent
activities.
 I plan to get some technology help like improve my computer skill or to know some kind
Of engineering software then I practiced based on the plan.
 I plan to set clear goals for my daily and weekly activities
 I plan to minimize Distractions such as unnecessary phone use during study or work time.

By regularly revising my progress and adjusting my plans, I believe I can improve my time
management skills and become more fruitful in my activities.

Reflective Activity 9

1) Have you ever experienced any difficulties while implementing continuous assessment?
Yes, I have experienced some difficulties while implementing continuous assessment.
The major difficulties of applying continuous assessment include It consumes time and unable to
achieve the desired session plan, students also misunderstand continuous assessment and focus
only on final exams, students’ lack of motivation to complete continuous tasks, large class sizes
,inadequacy of school infrastructure, lack of manuals.

2) What remedial actions have you taken?

 Applying ALMs in classroom
 I provided tutorial class.
 I gave regular feedback to motivate students and help them improve their performance.
Learning Project Title: Improving students Understanding on purpose of fluid
machines through Active Learning methods

Learning Goal:

 Enhance students’ understanding of pumps, compressors, and fans and their applications in
chemical processes by using practical, interactive learning activities.
 Improve students’ understanding of fluid machines and their working principles.
 Enable students to differentiate between various types of fluid machines and select
appropriate machines for industrial applications.

What I Want to Learn:

 The working principles of fluid machines.

 How to select and operate suitable pumps, compressors, and fans for chemical plants.
 Effective active learning methods for teaching fluid machines in Chemical Engineering.
 Methods to integrate theoretical fluid mechanics concepts with industrial applications.
 Effective strategies for teaching fluid machines concepts clearly

Lesson Content: Fluid Machines

Introduction to Fluid Machines

 Fluid machines are mechanical devices that transfer energy between a fluid and a mechanical
system. They play a crucial role in chemical process industries such as water supply,
petroleum refining, wastewater treatment, and power generation.
 Definitions and Classifications

 Pump: A device that adds energy to a liquid, usually to move it from a lower
elevation/pressure to a higher elevation/pressure.
 Fan: A machine used to move large volumes of gas (air) with low pressure increase.
 Compressor: A machine designed to significantly increase the pressure of a gas by
reducing its volume.
Learning Activities:

Read textbooks and articles on fluid machines and chemical engineering applications.
Observe pumps, compressors, and fans in university labs or nearby chemical plants.
Attend workshops or demonstrations on fluid machine operation and installation.
Review textbooks, lecture notes, and academic articles on teaching fluid machines in
engineering
Observe experienced instructors teaching fluid mechanics and fluid machines

Contribution of the Project to Professional Development

This Teaching Session Project contributed significantly to my professional development by:

Enhancing my ability to apply active learning strategies in chemical engineering courses.

Strengthening my reflective teaching practice.
Building my confidence in managing student-centered classrooms. Generally, this project
has positively influenced my approach to teaching Fluid Machines and other Chemical
Engineering courses by focusing more on application-based and interactive learning
methods.

Conclusion

The implementation of active learning methods improved both student engagement and learning
outcomes in the topic of Fluid Machines. Students demonstrated better understanding of
classification, working principles, and industrial applications of pumps, compressors, and fans.

I have done all the major reflective activities requested by our HDP instructors.

As per planning sessions, I have planned to attend and perform any activities given on time.
.Following this I grasp different types of knowledge and skills on how to prepare myself to deliver
a good teaching and learning method by using active learning methods.
3) Contributions to group work
There was a very good flow of group work among HDP candidates in the class and my
participation/contribution was critical in writing and explaining the major reflective activities very
well.
4) Carrying out projects
I have done all projects that are given by Higher Diploma Program Leaders.
5) Attendance and punctuality
I am punctual. I attended all HDP class for module two and come always on time.
