What is a Conjunction?
A conjunction is a word that joins words, phrases, clauses, or sentences.

Types of Conjunctions
There are three main types of conjunctions:
1 1. Coordinating Conjunctions
2 2. Subordinating Conjunctions
3 3. Correlative Conjunctions
1. Coordinating Conjunctions
They join equal ideas. Mnemonic: FANBOYS
1 For – reason
2 And – addition
3 Nor – negative addition
4 But – contrast
5 Or – choice
6 Yet – surprise
7 So – result
Comma Rule: Use a comma before FANBOYS when joining two complete sentences.

2. Subordinating Conjunctions
They join a dependent clause with a main clause.
Mnemonic: IN A WHITE BUS
1 If
2 Now that
3 Although
4 When
5 While
6 Till / Until
7 Even though
8 Because
9 Unless
10 Since
Comma Rule: If the sentence starts with a subordinating conjunction, use a comma.

3. Correlative Conjunctions
They work in pairs.
1 both … and
2 either … or
3 neither … nor
4 not only … but also
5 whether … or
Important Rule: Both parts must have the same grammatical structure.
