Kalimat pengandaian yang digunakan untuk menyatakan sesuatu yang diharapkan terjadi, tetapi tidak sesuai
dengan kenyataan atau fakta

3. Subjunctive Wish, Would Rather, If Only
A. Present Subjunctive
Subjunctive Wish
Rumus :
S1 + Wish (that) + S2 + V2/Were + Object + (Now/At present/Today)
Example :
- I wish she were here now
Means : (She is not here now)
Subjunctive Would Rather
Rumus :
S1 + Would Rather (that) + S2 + V2/Were + Object + (Now/At Present/Today)
Example :
- I would rather that you loved me
Means : (You don’t love me)
Subjunctive If Only
Rumus :
If Only + S + V2/Were + Object + (Now/At Present/Today)
Example :
- If only my boyfriend were handsome now
Means : (My boyfriend is not handsome now)
B. Past Subjunctive
Subjunctive Wish
Rumus :
S1 + Wish/Wished (that) + S2 + Had + V3/Had + Been + Object + (Yesterday, Last..., ...ago)
Example :
- She wished that she had had more time last night
Means : (She didn’t have more time last night)
Subjunctive Would Rather
Rumus :
S1 + Would Rather (that) + S2 + Had + V3/Had + Been + Object + (Yesterday, Last..., ...ago)
Example :
- He would rather that he had been an army yesterday
Means : (He was not an army yesterday)
Subjunctive If Only
Rumus :
If Only + S + Had + V3/Had + Been + Object + (Yesterday, Last..., ...ago)
Example :
- If only my brother had caught a pigeon 2 days ago
Means : (My brother didn’t catch a pigeon 2 days ago)
4. Subjunctive As If/As Though
A. Present Subjunctive
Rumus :
S1 + V1 (s,es) + As If/As Though + S2 + V2/Were + Object
Example :
- She walks as if she studied modelling
Means : (She doesn’t study modelling)
B. Past Subjunctive
Rumus :
S1 + V2 + As If/As Though + S2 + Had + V3/Had + Been + Object
Example :
- John looked something as though he had seen a ghost
Means : (John didn’t see a ghost)
