RUSSIA
ROCOCO
ARCHITECTURE
Russian Rococo architecture is a style of
architecture that emerged in Russia during the mid-
18th century. It is characterized by its use of pastel
colors, ornate decoration, and asymmetrical
shapes. This style was heavily influenced by
European Rococo and Baroque styles but also had
its own unique features.
ARCHITECTURAL
STYLE
One of the key characteristics of
Russian Rococo architecture is its use
of pastel colors. Soft pinks, blues,
and yellows were commonly used to
create a delicate and feminine
aesthetic. Another important feature
is the use of ornate decoration, such
as intricate carvings and moldings.
Asymmetrical shapes were also
common, creating a sense of
movement and flow throughout the
building.
CHARCTERSTICS
Elements from Classical Architecture and gold and other lavish
material
Elements from Classical Architecture can also be found in many
different works of Rococo Architecture. These elements include
pediments, round arches, statuary niches, and the use of columns
from the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders.
Gold was one of the most widely used materials during the Rococo
Age, and many of the great kings and queens of Europe had their
palaces completely covered with gilded details. Gold was also heavily
utilized in the Baroque Age, but during the Rococo period, this practice
was taken to a whole new level
Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli, (born 1700, Paris,
France—died April 1771, St. Petersburg, Russia),
French-born inventor of an opulent Russian Baroque
architecture that combined elements of Rococo with
traditional elements of Russian architecture.
