CHAPTER 4: THREE-PHASE SYSTEM
Question 1
A three-phase generator connected in delta supplies 100 volts as line voltage (VL) and 25 amps as
line current (IL). What is the value of the current for each phase (Ip)
Question 2
a) A three- phase supply with 200V, 50Hz was connected to a balance load of (16 + j12) Ω. If
the load is connected to STAR. Calculate:
i. Line current
ii. Power factor
iii. Real power
Question 3
In a certain three-wire star-connected generator, the phase voltage is 240V. Calculate the line
voltages.
Question 4
a) i. What are the various ways in which the three phases of a 3-phase system can be properly
connected?
ii. A delta connected load draws a current of 15A at a lagging power factor of 0.85 from 400V
3-phase, 50Hz supply. Find the resistance of each phase.
Question 5
a) Three coils with resistance and inductance are connected in star to a 415V, 3-phase supply.
Determine phase voltage.
Question 6
a. A three phase 415V, 50Hz supply connected to a balanced load of (40+j30)Ω per phase. If the
load is connected in DELTA, calculate:
i. Line current
ii. Power factor
iii. Apparent power
Question 7
a) Three loads, each of 10Ω and 0.019H inductor, are connected in a star to 415 V, 50 Hz, 3-
phase supply. Calculate the phase voltage, phase current and line current.
Question 8
a. Draw and label the waveform for the three-phase system
b. Three loads, each of resistance 30 Ω, are connected in delta to a 415 V, 3-phase supply.
Determine phase voltage and phase current for the system.
Question 9
