1. A 4 pole DC motor takes an armature current of 150 A at 440 V. If
its armature circuit has a resistance of 0.15Ω. What will be the back
emf at this load?

2. A 4-pole wave wound dc series motor has 944 wave-connected

armature conductors. At a certain load, the flux per pole is 34.6 mWb
23-03-2026
and the total mechanical torque developed is 209 N-m. Calculate the
line current taken by the motor and the speed at which it will run with
an applied voltage of 500 V. Total motor resistance is 3 ohm.

3. The field current in shunt DC machine is 2A and the line current is

20A at 200 V. Calculate the (i) generated emf when working as
generator (ii) torque i N-m when running at 1500 rpm as motor. Take
the armature resistance as 0.5 Ω.

4. A 250 volt DC shunt motor has armature resistance of 0.25 ohm on

load it takes an armature current of 50A and runs at 750rpm. If the
flux of the motor is reduced by 10% without changing the load
torque, find the new speed of the motor.

5. A 230-V d.c. shunt motor has an armature resistance of 0.5 Ω and

field resistance of 115 Ω. At no load, the speed is 1,200 r.p.m. and
the armature current 2.5 A. On application of rated load, the speed
drops to 1,120 r.p.m. Determine the line current and power input
when the motor delivers rated load.

6. The armature of a DC machine has a resistance of 0.1 Ω and is

connected to a 230 V supply. Calculate the back emf when it is
running (i) as a generator giving 80 A (ii) as a motor taking 80 A.

7. A 250 V dc shunt motor takes 41 A at full load resistance of motor

armature and shunt field winding are 0.1 Ω and 250 Ω respectively.
Find the back emf on full load.

8. A shunt generator delivers 50kW at 250V and runs at 400 [Link]

armature and field resistances are 0.02 Ω and50 Ω respectively.
Calculate the speed of the machine running as a shunt motor and
taking 50kW input at 250V. Allow 1V per brush for contact drop.
