Module 4 Exercise
Fishing
Stay as long as you can
After entering conversations, you now need to hold their attention and be
memorable. To build real connections you need to talk about things that go beyond
the surface. You need to fish for topics that get people lost in conversation with you.
Do this genuinely.
In this exercise, I want you to engage in 10 conversations and record how long you
could make the other person stay. What were the things you asked? Did you
genuinely enjoy the conversation? Did you feel a real connection?
Tips -
• Start with questions present in the context you are in.
• Ask things YOU are interested in.
• Don’t bombard the person with your questions. Remember, it’s a conversation
not an interrogation.
• Ask, listen, respond with your opinion and then ask again.
If you make people think of their memories, experiences and stories, they share a
very real part of them and you must do the same. The more momentum there is in
the conversation, the more likely you are to strike a chord with the other person.
All the best, Sher!
