🎤 Presentation Script: Refuse What We Can't Reuse
[Minh Phuc]: Hello everyone! Good morning to the teachers and all of our friends.
My name is Minh Phuc.
[Gia Huynh]: And my name is Gia Huynh. We are very happy to stand here today.
Before we start, I have a quick question for you. Please raise your hand: How many of
you drank from a plastic cup or used a plastic bag this morning? (Pause for 3 seconds
and look at the audience) Thank you! Don't worry, many of us do. But today, we want
to talk about why we need to change that.
[Minh Phuc]: Look at our poster on the screen. The big letters at the top say our main
message today: "REFUSE WHAT WE CAN'T REUSE". It means if we cannot use
something again and again, we should say "No" to it.
Let’s look at the left side of the poster. What colors do you see? It is dark, gray, and
looks very sad. You can see a shopping cart full of garbage. There are plastic water
bottles, plastic bags, coffee cups, and food boxes.
[Gia Huynh]: This side shows our world with "single-use" plastic. Single-use means
we use it only one time. Think about a plastic cup of milk tea. We drink it for maybe
15 minutes, but the plastic cup will stay in the ground or in the ocean for hundreds of
years! It hurts the environment, makes the water dirty, and harms the animals.
[Minh Phuc]: Now, follow the big white arrows. Look at the hand in the middle. The
hand is saying "STOP" to the trash. It tells us we need to change our habits.
Let's look at the right side of the poster. It is so different! It is bright, green, and
beautiful. You can see a clean river, green trees, flowers, and happy birds and
squirrels. This is the world we want to live in.
[Gia Huynh]: How can we make our world look like the right side? It is simple! Look
at what the person is holding. Instead of a plastic bag, they have a nice cloth bag – a
tote bag. You can put your books, clothes, or vegetables in it. Instead of a plastic
water bottle, they hold a cool metal bottle. It can keep your water cold all day! And
look, there are wooden spoons and forks, not plastic ones.
[Minh Phuc]: These things are called "reusable". We can wash them and use them a
thousand times. Every time you use a metal bottle, you save one plastic bottle from
the ocean.
So, our message at the bottom of the poster is very clear: "Choose reusable, save the
planet!"
[Gia Huynh]: As students, what can we do every day? We have 3 simple rules for
you:
1. Bring your own water bottle to school.
2. Bring a cloth bag when you buy things.
3. Say "No, thank you" when someone gives you a plastic straw.
[Minh Phuc]: It is not difficult. Small actions can make a big difference. Let's join the
movement and say NO to plastic.
