Advertisement for Admission to Masters of Arts [M. A.] for the session 2026-28
Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.A. in Development Studies
Programme for the academic session 2026-28. Applicants are required to note the Department, Programme
and Programme Code as mentioned below, that will be required at the time of filling ONLINE APPLICATION

There is no relaxation in academic requirement for any category / caste of candidates because the minimum
academic requirement has been set to meet the basic challenges of the academic programme.
The above mentioned CGPA/percentage should be the aggregate CGPA/percentage based on all
semesters/years. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice-versa given by individual Institute/University
will NOT be considered. If the evaluation system is in grades, CGPA value will be considered and if the
evaluation system is in marks, percentage value will be considered.
Seat Distribution:
The distribution of seats for the said programme including slow pace is:
General-14 OBC-10 SC-06 ST-03 OPPH-02 EWS-04 TOTAL-39
* If sufficient applicants are not available, seats under OBC, EWS and PH categories may be filled up by General
category applicants.
Eligibility Criteria:
Admission to the programme will be made on the basis of career marking as decided by the Institute.
The candidates appearing qualifying degree final examination may also apply for the above programme.
However, they are required to submit their mark/grade sheet showing 50% marks or 5.5/10 CGPA at the
time of selection and admission, failing which the applicants must produce a certificate signed by the
Principal or Registrar of the College/University last attended stating that all examinations including
practical necessary for award of the degree have been completed, in order to be eligible for admission, in
the prescribed format given in the Annexure-I. Such candidates have to produce their final certificate latest
by 30th September 2026; else their admission will stand cancelled and all fees paid including Caution
deposit shall be forfeited by the Institute.

Slow Pace:
M. A. programme is also offered in slow pace (4 years) to candidates, employed (including self-employment)
in industry / organizations in and around Rourkela. Their admission will be within the approved seat limit as
mentioned in the seat distribution. Eligibility criteria, selection process and fees are same as those for regular
students studying in normal pace.
Certificates for claiming reservation:
Applicants claiming reservation under SC/ST/EWS/OBC/PH quota are required to produce valid certificate as
detailed below at the time of admission failing which their candidature will be treated as General category:
a. The OBC, EWS and PH certificates should have been issued on or after 01.04.2026.
b. Candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota are required to produce SC/ST certificate as
prescribed by the Govt. of India.
c. Candidates claiming reservation under OBC quota are required to produce OBC certificate (Annexure-II)
and to submit an undertaking (Annexure-III) in the prescribed format for admission to academic
programme (not in the format for employment/recruitment).
d. Candidates claiming reservation under PH quota are required to produce PH certificate as per following:
For physically challenged category, a minimum of 40% disability is required subject to the
condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory and
practical work as applicable to various programmes without any special concessions and
exemptions.
Physically challenged candidates shall bring the Physically Challenged (PH) Certificate in the
prescribed format given in Annexure-IV. This certificate shall be signed by three members of
Medical Board duly constituted by the State or Central Government under Person with
Disability (PWD) Act. One of the doctors in the Medical Board shall be a specialist in the
particular field pertaining to the disability. The name, degree, and specialization of all the
doctors, date of issue shall be clearly visible in the certificate.
The Medical Officer of NIT Rourkela may assess the Physically Challenged (PH) certificate and
the decision of the Medical Officer is final and binding on the candidate.
Attention of the PH candidates is drawn to Chapter XI, Section 56 of PWD Act for persons with
severe disability. A disability of 80% or more is termed as severe disability. Suitability of such
candidates for carrying out all activities related to theory and practical work as applicable to
various programme without any special concessions and exemption will be examined by the
Institute authority with help of Medical Officer and the admission of such candidates is subject
to the decision of the authority.

b. A set of Xerox copies of all certificates from HSC onwards
They also need to produce original certificates from HSC onwards for verification to the Academic Office at the
time of admission.

Refund Rule:
Once a student is admitted and then he/she is removed or he/she withdraws/leaves the Institute without
completing the entire programme, all fees paid including the caution deposit will be forfeited by the institute.
Mess advance may be refunded after deduction of dues, if any.

1. Disability certificate shall be issued by Medical Board of at least three doctors duly constituted by the State or
Central government under PWD Act.(One of the members of the Board should be the specialist in the particular
