Introduction: Good morning everyone.

My name is [Your Name], and

I’m a student at Information Technology and Foreign language
university. Today, I’m excited to talk to you about the common
problems in pucblic speaking. Im sure you’re familiar with the image
"Your palms are sweating. Your heart is hammering against your ribs
like a trapped bird. Your mind, which worked perfectly fine five
minutes ago, has suddenly decided to go on vacation. Sound
familiar?"
Now that I’ve got your attention, let’s dive deeper into why
overcoming your stage fright is a crucial soft-skill in any workplace
environment
I’ll divide my presentation into two parts. First, I’ll start with the
natural reasons why we are afraid of being the centre of attention
and finally I will provide effective ways to overcome this. By the end
of this presentation I hope you’ll gain a clearer understand of your
fear and reflect on them with suitable methods. To begin, let’s start
with the most common psychological reason: the stage fright
Part 1: reasons why you feel nervous about stage performance
1. Stage fright is a common fear when you have to perform or talk
before a large group of people. And this psychological fear often lead
to brain freeze. This get worse, because your brain cannot function
properly when it is stressed, and make it harder to retrieve
memories.
2. Or in other cases, you’re not actually scared, but are really self-
conscious- This is often referred as Glossophobia, a combination of
psychological, social, and physiological factors, often related to
a fear of judgment or failure
According to Pat Ladouceur, a survey found that 80% of UK
students reported oral presentations as a source of social
anxiety.
3. And the last but most important thing is that our brains crave
certainty. and public speaking is an inherently uncertain activity! So
we see it as a life threatening situation! And with uncertainty comes
anxiety.

Methods to make public speaking easier

1. To be able to present your ideas, you must first control your body
before it controls you. Ex: I usually calm my body with the box
breathing method (Inhale for 4 counts, Hold your breath for 4 counts
then exhale). Also slow down your rate of speech, I understand that
you just want to get this done for good as soon as possible. But the
faster you speak, the more panic you will become

2. Shift your focus away from the audience

(stop the negative mindset such as: what if I appear dumb? What if I
forgot what to say?) Instead ask yourself, what are you standing here
for? To deliver a speech for the audience that they want to hear,
obviously. When you have come to that resolve, the fear gives way
to purpose.)
3. The third method is actually a nice way to practice your speech. If
you’re so good at overthinking the worst outcome possible, then
why not turn it otherwise?
Envisage yourself succeeding in public speaking makes sense because
it will significantly reduce your anxiety and boost your confidence.
When visualizing positive outcomes, it makes the real experience less
daunting and feel familiar.
Conclusion:
Now that we’ve gone through explored how the fear of the stage is
not a flaw, but a natural psychological anxiety and come up practical
methods to overcome this challenge. Please do keep in mind that
you don't need to be fearless to be a great speaker; you just need to
be in control of the fear you have.
