Session 5 R Data Analysis Exercise

The document outlines exercises for an Online Academic Data Analysis Bootcamp focusing on parametric statistics and exploring assumptions. It includes tasks such as reading in R exam data, transforming variables, plotting histograms and Q-Q plots, and conducting Shapiro-Wilk Tests for normality. Additionally, it requires testing the assumption of homogeneity of variance for various transformations of the numeracy variable.

Program R: Essentials. Session 5, Parametric Statistics:

Exploring Assumptions
Group Name:

Date:

Exercise 1 Read in R exam data.

a) Set the variable uni to be a factor:

b) Transform the variable numeracy using log, square root and reciprocal
transformation.

c) Plot histograms of numeracy, log numeracy, square root numeracy and reciprocal
transformed numeracy scores and add a normal density line. Interpret the assumption
of normality based on the histograms

d) Plot Q-Q plots of the transformations above and interpret.

e) Conduct and interpret Shapiro – Wilk Tests for numeracy, log numeracy, square root
numeracy and reciprocal transformed numeracy scores

Exercise 2
Test the assumption of homogeneity of variance for numeracy, log numeracy, square root
numeracy and reciprocal transformed numeracy variables in Exercise 1.
