Chapter Three

This chapter outlines the research methodology, including design, population, sampling procedures, data collection instruments, and analysis methods. A cross-sectional survey design will be employed, targeting mothers of under-five children attending immunization at specific hospitals in Zamfara state, with a sample size of 175. The data will be collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed through frequency counts and percentages.

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION

This chapter describes the methods used for the conducts of the research. The chapter

therefore, confined the following areas as follows:

 Research design

 Sample and sampling procedures

 Instruction for data collection

 Validity of the research instrument

 Reliability of the research instrument

 Procedure for data collection and

 Method of data analysis

3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN

A cross-sectional survey research design was be used to accomplished the objectives of

the study, cross-section survey is a systematic way of action which provide necessary

information specific population about current status of that population on one or more

variable (NJODI & BWALA, 2010). The study further stated that the design allow the

description of condition as they exist I their natural settings of a population using a

presentation sample. Therefore the research design would suitable for the conduct of this

study.
3.3 POPULATION OF THE STUDY

Population in research refers to the entire members, respondents, or objects that possesses

the pertinent characteristics, attributes or information which the research design for the

investigation. The population to be used comprised of mothers of under-five attending to

routine immunization at federal center (FMC) and General hospitals GUSAU,

ZAMFARA state are approximately about 321 based on hospital immunization register,

2017.

3.4 SAMPLE AND SAMPLING PROCEDURE

The sample size to be used for conducting this study was 175 (KRECIE&MORGAN

1970) multi stage sampling procedure will be used. Stage 1 simple random sampling will

be used to select the wards, stratified sampling procedure will be used in stage 2 to select

the respondent

3.5 INSTRUMENT FOR DATA COLLECTION

A research developed questionnaire was used to collect the data for the study, which was

consist of close ended questions which was three (3) sections and comprised of it items

section “A” was comprise demographics data containing four (4) items section “B” was

consist of question to sources useful information on knowledge of routine immunization

services contain eight (8) and section © was consist of sixteen (16) items

3.6 VALIDITY OF RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The research developed instrument was submitted to the project supervisor for validation

proposal, corrections and final drafts of the instrument are to be produced after affecting

all the corrections observation and suggestion made by the supervisor.

3.7 RELIABILITY OF THE INSTRUMENT

The reliability of the research instrument was be determine using split half method which

used to find out the consistency of the results. Split half method requires administration

of a single test instrument to a group of mothers of under-five once and split the score in

to two equal halves. The score was being correlated using person product moment

correlation to determine the reliability of the instrument.

3.8 PROCEDURE FOR DATA COLLECTION

For the researcher to gain access to and cooperation from the respondents an introductory

letter was collected form coordinator health Education Departmental seeking for

permission to conduct the study the letter was taken to in charge of health care facilities

after getting permission the questionnaire was be distributed to respondent with the help

of a two male/female trained assistant it take at least 5 days to complete the collection of

data for only those that are attending routing immunization services

3.9 METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS

The data collection was be analyzed using frequency count and sample percentage while

means will be used to answer the stated research questions.
