DSP2425 - Lab 6

The document outlines Lab #6 for a Digital Signal Processing course, focusing on signal and system analysis in the frequency domain using Fourier transforms and Scilab for spectrum visualization. It includes exercises on finding Fourier transforms of various signals and drawing amplitude and phase spectrums. Additionally, it specifies report submission guidelines and includes an additional exercise referencing a separate document.

EXERCISES

Exercise 1. Find Fourier transform of the following signals

|𝑡|
1− |𝑡 | ≤ 𝜏
a. 𝑥1 (𝑡) = { 𝜏
0 |𝑡 | > 𝜏
b. 𝑥2 (𝑡) = 𝑒 𝑗𝜔0 𝑡

Exercise 2. Find Fourier transform of the following signals

a. 𝑥1 (𝑛) = 𝑢(𝑛) − 𝑢(𝑛 − 6)
b. 𝑥2 (𝑛) = 2𝑛 𝑢(−𝑛)
𝑛
c. 𝑥3 (𝑛) = (14) 𝑢(𝑛 + 4)
1
2 − 2 𝑛 |𝑛 | ≤ 4
d. 𝑥4 (𝑛) = {
0 |𝑛 | > 4
e. 𝑥5 (𝑛) = |𝑎|𝑛 𝑠𝑖𝑛(𝜔0𝑛)|𝑎| < 1

Exercise 3. Use Scilab to draw the amplitude spectrum and phase spectrum of the following
signals
a. 𝑥1 (𝑛) = 0.1𝑛 𝑢(𝑛)
b. 𝑥2 (𝑛) = 𝛿 (𝑛) + 𝛿 (𝑛 − 1) + 𝛿 (𝑛 − 2) + 𝛿 (𝑛 − 3)

Exercise 4. Given LTI system by the following input-ouput description equation

𝑦(𝑛) + 0.1𝑦(𝑛 − 1) + 0.2𝑦(𝑛 − 2) = 𝑥(𝑛)

Determine the Fourier transform of the impulse response h(n) and then draw the amplitude
spectrum and phase spectrum.

Exercise 5. Given LTI system ℎ(𝑛) = 𝛿(𝑛) + 𝛿 (𝑛 − 1). Determine output y(n) when input
x(𝑛) = 0.5𝑛 𝑢(𝑛) by using Fourier Transform. Then, use SciLab to draw amplitude and
phase spectrums.

Additional Exercise. Complete exercises 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.9, 4.10 and 4.11 in the
reference document in the attachment.
