Energy is defined as the ability to do work or cause change, measured in Joules, and can be observed through its effects such as movement, heat, light, and sound. The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed or transferred between forms. Various forms of energy include kinetic, potential, heat, light, sound, electrical, and chemical energy, and energy is closely related to force, as applying force to an object transfers energy to it.

Energy

1. What is Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work or cause change. We cannot see energy directly, but we can
observe its effects.
Examples of effects:
Moving objects
Producing heat or light
Making sound
Unit of Energy: Joule (J)

2. Law of Conservation of Energy

Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be changed from one form to another.
This means: Total energy before a process = Total energy after a process
Example: When a ball falls: Potential energy → Kinetic energy
Total energy remains the same

3. Energy Transfer and Transformation

Energy Transfer: Energy moves from one object to another without changing form.
Example: Heat moving from a hot cup of tea to your hand

Energy Transformation: Energy changes from one form to another

Example: Electrical energy → Light energy (bulb)

4. Examples of Energy Transformation

Burning coal (BBQ): Chemical energy → Heat energy → Light energy
Electric fan: Electrical energy → Kinetic energy
Food in our body: Chemical energy → Kinetic energy + Heat energy
Car engine: Chemical energy (fuel) → Kinetic energy + Heat + Sound
Torch: Chemical energy (battery) → Electrical energy → Light energy

5. Forms of Energy
Kinetic Energy (energy of motion)
Potential Energy (stored energy)
Heat Energy
Light Energy
Sound Energy
Electrical Energy
Chemical Energy

6. Relation Between Energy and Force

Force is a push or pull.
Energy and force are closely connected: When a force acts on an object, it can:
Make it move
Change its speed
Change its direction
This means energy is transferred
Example: When you kick a ball, your foot applies force. You cannot apply force unless you have
energy. When you kick the ball, your energy is transferred to the ball. The ball starts moving.
Force: stationary object  moving object
Energy: Potential energy  kinetic energy
