Algorithmic Folklore

Algorithmic folklore refers to myths, rituals, and narratives generated collectively through
recommendation systems, social media loops, and machine-curated content. Unlike traditional
folklore passed through generations, algorithmic folklore evolves in accelerated cycles. Memes,
unexplained internet rituals, viral conspiracy fragments, and symbolic phrases gain cultural
permanence not through historical continuity but through repeated algorithmic resurfacing. In
many cases, users participate in myths whose origins are computationally obscured. This field
