What Is Easy-Layout Editor?

Canon Easy-Layout Editor (hereafter Easy-Layout Editor) is an application software that lets you freely
arrange the layout and print documents, images, web pages, and more with simple controls.
For example, you can print multiple input data such as Word and PDF files at once, or create a large poster
using multiple sheets of paper.

Collect and Print

Data created using different application software can be automatically arranged and printed together.
By efficiently arranging your data, you can save paper.

Free Layout
Data created using different application software can be freely arranged and printed.

Tiling/Poster
A single page of images can be divided and printed on multiple sheets of paper.
The printed results can be pasted together to create a larger print.

Basic Operation (Home Screen)

When you start Easy-Layout Editor, the home screen will be displayed.

A: Input Data List

Input the data you want to print.

B: Layout menu
Select the layout menu.

C: Favorites
Register your frequently used settings, and select them from the list.

The basic flow of operations is as follows.

1. Input the data you want to print

Drag and drop the data to Input Data List.
Data edited in other application software will also appear in Input Data List.

• Supported data types are image data (JPEG/PNG/BMP/TIFF/GIF/PDF), and Office data (Word/
Excel/PowerPoint).

Only PDF files that are V1.7 or equivalent can be printed.

Limitations When Printing PDF Files

These are limitations that apply when using Easy-Layout Editor to print PDF files that contain the below
image processing.

Caution is needed when using Easy-Layout Editor to print PDF files created with Adobe Illustrator and other
applications for graphical purposes.

• Transparency processing

In some cases, transparency may not be processed as intended.

• Drop shadows

In some cases, drop shadow effects (shadow effects applied to text, shapes, etc.) applied to objects
placed on rectangles with transparency processing may not be processed correctly.
• Overprinting

The overlaying parts of images will not be printed as intended.

• PDF with security settings

Cannot be printed.
• 16-bit data or JPEG 2000 image data with transparency settings

Images cannot be printed.

• PostScript data

Images cannot be printed.

• Halftone

Cannot be printed.
• Data with comments added

Images cannot be printed if there is no data for displaying comments.

• Fonts

If fonts used in the PDF are not embedded in the PDF, print results may not be as expected.
• Image data using JBIG2 compression

Images cannot be printed with Easy-Layout Editor V1.2.x or earlier.

Starting Easy-Layout Editor

You can start Easy-Layout Editor through the following methods.

Directly start the application software

Start from the application software you are using
Start with Easy-PhotoPrint Editor

Double click the Easy-Layout Editor icon on the desktop.

Start from the application software you are using

Use the following procedure to start Easy-Layout Editor and input data to print a web page or data from
the application software you are using with Easy-Layout Editor.

1. Open the Print dialog box

To open the Print dialog box, select the print menu in the application software in which the print
data is opened.

2. Select Canon Easy-Layout Editor from the printers you can use

• If you cannot set the paper size and orientation of the printout in the screen for selecting
a printer, click Preferences or Printer properties, and do the settings from the Printing
Preferences dialog box. The way to open the Printing Preferences dialog box varies
depending on the application software.

• You may be able to improve print results by using the check box for Reduce resolution to
prevent loss of print data in Print Options....
If the images printed are grainy, clear the check box, and the fine lines printed are thick,
select the check box. However, depending on the data, a print job may occasionally fail.

3. Execute printing.
Easy-Layout Editor starts.
The data you edited in the application software appears in the Input Data List on the home screen.
(See Basic Operation (Home Screen).)

If you select Create Tiling/Poster in Easy-PhotoPrint Editor, data will be input to Easy-Layout Editor,
allowing you to edit and print posters.

You can arrange multiple data to a single page while checking the preview, and configure settings such as
duplex printing.

1. Start Easy-Layout Editor

2. Input the data you want to print

3. Select Collect and print

The editing screen will be displayed.

Configure settings such as layout printing and duplex printing.

Edit the data in various ways, such as by dragging images to change their order or by changing the page
orientation.

4. Click Next
Configure print-related settings.

5. Click Print
Printing starts.

Free Layout

Data created using different application software can be freely arranged and printed.
Change the size and arrangement of images to your preference, and crop images to print only what you
need.

1. Start Easy-Layout Editor

2. Input the data you want to print

3. Select Free Layout

The editing screen will be displayed.

Configure settings such as borders and duplex printing.

On the editing screen, you can freely change the size and arrangement of images.

Tiling/Poster

A single page of images can be divided and printed on multiple sheets of paper.

1. Start Easy-Layout Editor

2. Input the data you want to print

3. Select Tiling/Poster
The layout selection screen will be displayed.
Adjacent
The paper is printed in an overlaid format with no gaps between them.
Separated
Separate the paper when printing. Images in the gap area will not be printed.

4. Click Next
The editing screen will be displayed.

A: Erase Margin
Crop the data by deleting the margins set in the application software you are using.

B: Fit
The image will be contained within the paper. Margins may appear depending on the paper size in
order to maintain the aspect ratio of the image.

C: Fit (No margins)
Arrange the images on the paper without leaving any space. The image may be cut off depending
on the paper size in order to maintain the aspect ratio of the image.

D: Select Image
Select an image arranged within the paper.

E: Orientation
Selects the printing orientation.
F: Divisions (vert.) / Divisions (horiz.)
Sets the number of divisions you want for the image.

5. Check if the image is cut off

Click Select Image (D), and check the area where the image is cut off (the transparent area).

If you want to change the area range of the image, use Orientation (E) or Divisions (vert.) / Divisions
(horiz.) (F) to change the print orientation or the number of divisions, or drag the arranged images.

6. Click Next
Configure print-related settings.

7. Click Print
Printing starts.

You can register a combination of a printer to use, an edit mode, and settings in the edit mode, and save it
to Favorites.
By registering combinations that you frequently use, you can eliminate the task of having to set them each
time.

Save Print Settings

To open the Add to Favorites dialog box, click Add... in Favorites on the print settings screen for any of
the edit modes.

Click OK to register the settings that are displayed to favorites.

• In the Add to Favorites dialog box, you can only edit the Name. If you want to change the registered
settings, click Cancel to return to the edit mode. After you change the settings in the edit screen and
the print settings screen, open the Add to Favorites dialog box again.

Load Print Settings

Input the data you want to print on the Home screen, and then click the print settings registered in the
Favorites sheet. These print settings will load, and the edit screen will be displayed.

Edit Favorites
To open the Edit Favorites dialog box, click Edit Favorites... on the Favorites sheet on the Home
screen.

You can confirm settings in favorites that have been registered, change the Name, and reorder and delete
favorites.

Reloading saved print settings and data being edited saves you the trouble of configuring settings each time
you print, and lets you resume editing from where you left off, making your work more efficient.

The save dialog box will appear.

The home screen will be displayed.

2. Load the saved file

Drag and drop your saved files (.elep) to Input Data List on the home screen, or load them by
selecting Open Project... in the File menu.

Print From Print History

Restore, re-edit, and print previously printed settings and edit data.

1. Click Options... from the File menu.

2. Check the Save Print History (Max. 20) check box

If you add a check mark, print history will be automatically saved.

• If the print history exceeds the limit, the oldest data will be deleted.

History in the Print History menu.

If you click Back, you will return to the edit screen, where you can re-edit your data.

General Notes (Easy-Layout Editor)

When using Easy-Layout Editor, the following restrictions apply. Please familiarize yourself with them before
using it.

• This guide primarily provides explanations using the screens that are displayed when you use the
Windows 10 operating system (hereafter, Windows 10).

• Easy-Layout Editor V1.3.0 and later does not support 32 bit operating systems.

• Apply the latest Windows Update.

• Loading data to the application software or printing from the application software may fail. Also, the
images may be defective or grainy when they are printed. In such cases, try the following methods.
If you cannot resolve the situation, print directly from the printer driver, without using Easy-Layout Editor.
◦ Add expanded memory to your PC, or enlarge the virtual memory.

◦ If you are using Adobe Illustrator, switch the on/off setting of the Bitmap print item in the print dialog
box.

◦ Change the print quality.

◦ Open the Print Options dialog box from the print settings screen of the printer driver for Canon
Easy-Layout Editor to change the settings for the Reduce resolution to prevent loss of print
data check box.
• Sometimes the print preview display may be different from the actual print position. If this occurs, make
a slight adjustment in the position of the object.
• The appearance of text and fine lines in the print preview may be different from what you see in the print
result.
• Sometimes a print job can be lost if Easy-Layout Editor is shut down during the print job.

• When you install this software, the virtual printer Canon Easy-Layout Editor is installed. If you want to
use this software, do not uninstall the virtual printer Canon Easy-Layout Editor.

• Printing is not possible from shared printers or redirected printers.

• The initial startup and printout may take some time, depending on the environment.

• Operation may be abnormal if the number of paper sizes registered in the OS exceeds a certain
number.

• In Startup, if you disable Canon Easy-Layout Editor Service, it will not run correctly.
