ENDANGERED SPECIES
Introduction:
An endangered species is a group of animals or plants that could soon
disappear forever. Extinction happens when the last living member of a
species dies, and there will never be more of that kind again. Today, many
animals and plants are already close to extinction and could disappear from
the Earth if we don’t take an action.
There are many reasons why species become endangered, but most of them
are connected to human activities such as habitat destruction, hunting,
overfishing, and pollution. It is really sad that humans, who are supposed to
protect nature, often become the main reason for its destruction.
Cause 1 – Habitat Destruction:
Habitat destruction is one of the main causes/reasons. When people move
into new areas, they cut down forests to build houses, farms, and cities. This
destroys the natural homes of animals and plants and leaves them without
food or shelter.
For example, when forests in Asia are destroyed, orangutans lose their trees
and cannot find enough fruit to survive. Also, pollution makes the problem
bigger. Dirty water from factories that contains harmful chemicals flows into
rivers and lakes, killing fish and poisoning the animals that drink from them.
Even pesticides used by farmers can kill insects and birds living nearby.
As a result, many species lose their homes and die out slowly.
Cause 2 – Hunting and Overfishing:
Another reason is hunting and fishing. Many animals are killed for their
meat, skin, or fur. The Arabian oryx, for example, is almost extinct because
of its valuable meat. Tigers are shot for their bones, which are used to make
traditional medicine or tea. Crocodiles are caught to make expensive shoes
and bags, and seals are killed for their fur to make coats.
Large sea creatures like whales, sharks, and tuna are also endangered because
of overfishing. Too many of them are caught to make food such as sushi or
shark fin soup. As a result, the balance of marine life is destroyed, and many
other sea animals lose their main food sources.
Personally, I think people should never kill animals just for luxury items or
expensive dishes. It’s cruel and unnecessary.
Cause 3 – Pollution and Climate Change:
Pollution is another big problem. Plastic, smoke, and chemicals are damaging
the Earth. Sometimes, turtles eat plastic bags in the ocean because they think
they are jellyfish, and this can make them die. Birds also suffer when they eat
small pieces of plastic or when the air becomes too dirty.
Climate change is also one of the main reasons. Temperatures are rising, and
ice, for example in the Arctic is melting. Polar bears are losing their homes
and must swim long distances to find food. Many of them die from hunger.
Solutions:
There are many things both governments and individuals can do to protect
endangered species. First, we should try not to pollute natural areas and take
care of the environment. Farmers and companies who destroy animal habitats
should be punished or pay a fine. People can also help by refusing to buy
products made from animal parts, like crocodile bags or fur coats.
Governments can make stronger laws against illegal hunting, fishing, and
trading of endangered species. They can also build more sanctuaries and
national parks. These are safe places where animals can live freely and
reproduce. In some cases, endangered animals are bred in zoos and later
released into the wild.
I believe education is also very important. If children learn to love and
respect animals from a young age, they will grow up caring for nature and
protecting it.
Final sentence (natural closing):
If everyone takes even a small step, we can protect endangered species and
make sure our planet stays full of life for future generations.
HABITAT DESTRUCTION
Introduction:
Habitat destruction is one of the main problems that cause animals and plants
to become endangered. Endangered means a species is in danger of
disappearing and may not exist in the future. A habitat is the natural
environment where a species lives and grows. When habitats are destroyed,
animals and plants cannot survive in the areas they used to live. This is a
serious problem around the world, especially in forests, wetlands, rivers and
oceans.
Causes and Examples:
Habitat destruction happens mainly because of human activities. For
example, people cut down trees to build houses, roads, factories or farms.
Forests are cleared for the same purposes, as a result, animals lose their
homes. For example, when forests in Asia are destroyed, orangutans lose
their trees and cannot find enough food to survive. Tigers are another
example of an animal that is affected by this.
Pollution also destroys habitats. Factories release dirty water and chemicals
into rivers, harming fish and other water animals. Farmers use pesticides that
can kill insects and birds in the surrounding areas. Even climate change
contributes/leads to habitat loss, as/because rising temperatures, flood, storms
destroy the environments where animals live.
Effects:
When habitats are destroyed, animals cannot find food, water, or shelter.
Many species start to die or move to smaller areas where survival is difficult.
For example, polar bears lose ice habitats in the Arctic due to global warming
and cannot hunt for seals easily. This also makes life harder for other animals
and plants in the same area.
Solutions:
To protect habitats, humans must take an action. Governments can create
national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and protected areas where no
construction or deforestation is allowed. People can help by planting trees,
recycling, using water and energy carefully, and avoiding pollution. They can
also support organizations that protect wildlife and endangered species.
Using natural resources wisely is very important — this means we must not
waste water, cut too many trees, or destroy soil. Education is important too
— if more people understand how important habitats are for survival, they
will take care of them.
Closing Sentence:
In conclusion, protecting habitats also means protecting life itself. If we act
now, animals and plants can continue to live safely, and our planet will stay
balanced and healthy for future generations.
