Activity Type Introduction


Reading, listening and In this leisure time activity, students describe and guess hobbies
speaking activity and free time activities in a game of taboo.

Procedure
Language Focus
Divide the class into two teams (A and B).
Hobbies and free time
activities
Tell the class that they are going to play a game of taboo where
Antonyms and synonyms they guess the names of hobbies and free time activities from
other students' descriptions.

Aim A player from Team A comes to the front of the class and is given
a taboo card.
To describe and guess
hobbies and free time The player then describes the hobby or free time activity in bold
activities in a game of on the card to his or her team, without saying the hobby or using
taboo. the other words on the card.

The player is also not allowed to say variations of the words on


Preparation the card, e.g. colour, colours, colourful, colouring, etc.
Make one copy of
the cards and cut as If Team A successfully guesses the hobby or free time activity
indicated. within a specified time (e.g. one minute), they score a point.

If not, Team B has one chance to guess the hobby and steal the
Level point.

Pre-intermediate (A2) Then, a player from Team B comes to the front and is given a card
and so on.
Time Teams continue taking it in turns to play until all the cards have
35 minutes been used.

The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
