remote object invocation. Interaction implementation: message passing, RPC, concurrency and threads, heterogeneity of
systems and languages. Distributed systems management. Introduction to networking: computer networks as distributed
systems; definition and function; advantages of networked systems; network classification. Local area network (LAN): wired
and wireless LAN, high speed and bridged LAN; transmission media; topology; protocols; access control and security. Wide
Area Networks: characteristics of public data networks, packets switched data networks, circuit switched data networks.
Internet architecture: network edge; network core; protocol stack and layering. Comparison of OSI and Internet protocol
