Class 10 Notes: Fractions
1. Multiplication (Fractions)
Multiply numerators together and denominators together. Simplify the result if possible.
Formula: (a/b) × (c/d) = (ac/bd)
Example: 2/3 × 4/5 = 8/15
2. Division (Fractions)
Convert division into multiplication by taking the reciprocal (flip the second fraction).
Formula: (a/b) ÷ (c/d) = (a/b) × (d/c)
Example: 3/4 ÷ 2/5 = 15/8
3. Simplifying Fractions
Divide numerator and denominator by their HCF (Highest Common Factor). Always write answers
in simplest form.
Example: 12/18 = 2/3
