Task 4: Physical Network Topology (Description)

Network type: Star Topology

Design explanation:

 ISP connects to the main router

 Router connects to core switch
 Core switch connects to servers and access switches
 Each floor has one access switch
 Wireless access points provide Wi-Fi
 The two buildings are connected using Fiber Optic Cable
 All servers are placed in a server room in Building A

Network Components

 Internet → Router → Core Switch

 Core Switch → Access Switches (each floor)
 Access Switch → Client Computers
 Access Points → Wireless Users
 Fiber cable connects Building A and Building B

Maintenance and Backup Strategy
Introduction

Network maintenance and backup strategies are important to ensure the availability, reliability,
and security of the organization’s data and network services.

Scope

This strategy covers:

 Network devices
 Servers
 Client computers
 Data storage
 Backup procedures

Basic Concepts

Maintenance ensures the network works efficiently, while backup protects data from loss or
damage.

Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance helps prevent failures before they occur.

Activities include:

 Regular system updates

 Checking cables and network devices
 Monitoring network performance
 Updating antivirus software
 Cleaning server and network equipment

7
Corrective Maintenance
Corrective maintenance involves fixing problems after they occur.

Examples:

 Repairing failed hardware

 Replacing damaged cables
 Fixing network configuration errors
 Restoring corrupted systems

Backup Strategy
Backup ensures important data can be recovered if lost.

Types of backup:

1. Full Backup
o Backup of all system data weekly
2. Incremental Backup
o Backup only changed data daily
3. Offsite Backup
o Store backup in cloud or external storage

Backup storage methods:

 External hard drives

 Cloud storage
 Network attached stor
