SpecMod – What’s The Functionality?
Introduction
SpecMod is a utlity to make modifications to existing PDMS specs easier and quicker.
What does it look Like?

As SpecMod uses the SPECONMODE functionality, the user must have write access to the first
catalogue database in the MDB.
The “Spec” drop-down box at the top-left of the form gives a list of specs with write access (Fig.2.),
plus an option to list all specs including foreign and read only specs (Fig.3).

When you select a spec with write access the “Type” drop-down box is populated with the available
types in that spec. Selecting the component type you are interested in will display them in the higher
of the two large windows (Fig.4).

Depending on which “Mode” is selected on the left hand side of the form, the content of the top
window will change (Fig.5).

To use SpecMod to modify a PDMS specification you would select the item(s) you wish to modify
and click on the button to copy the items to the lower of the large windows. Note that for
most options this button will not be active unless a comment has been added in the Comment box
at the top of the form (Fig.6).

Multiple lines can be selected by using the Ctrl or Shift keys (Fig.7).

Click on the button to drop the selected items into the lower window (Fig.8).

Depending on which mode you are in, edit the content of the lower window if required, and apply
the modification using the “APPLY” button.
Modes
Modify – Modify the name of the SPCO, or any of the reference
attributes. This uses standard Paragon commands. Lower window
content modification required.
Modify (SELEs) – Modify the SELE questions and answers for the
selected items. This uses the SPECONMODE. Lower window content
modification required.
AddNew – Add new items to the specification using the selected
items as a starting point. This uses the SPECONMODE. Lower window
content modification required.
Remove – Renames a SPCO and removes it from the spec.
Open Type (*) – Opens the partial spec for the current type in the
default text editor in NEW or OLD format as selected. This does not
require the lower window, just the “APPLY” button.
Open Spec (*) – Opens the full spec in the default text editor in NEW
or OLD format as selected. This does not require the lower window,
just the “APPLY” button.
Run File – Gives a list of files create by the Open Type/Spec modes
for running in as appropriate.
View – View only.
Log Files
Log files of modifications made using the SpecMod application are stored on %LOGDIR% to help
improve traceability of spec changes, particularly when work-sharing.
