Introduction to Cyber Security

Cyber Security is the practice of protecting computers, mobile devices, servers, networks, and digital
data from unauthorized access and cyber attacks. In today’s modern world, almost every organization
depends on technology and the internet. Because of this, hackers try to steal information, damage
systems, or spread fear using digital attacks. Cyber security helps keep personal data, banking
systems, schools, hospitals, and government organizations safe from online threats.
History of Cyber Security

The history of cyber security started in the 1970s when computers first became connected through
networks. One of the earliest cyber threats was a program called Creeper, which spread through
ARPANET. Later, antivirus software was developed to stop harmful programs. As the internet became
popular, hackers started creating viruses, worms, and scams. Today, cyber security has become one of
the most important fields in technology because cyber crimes are increasing every year.
Meaning of Important Terms

Network means a group of connected computers that share information. Malware means malicious
software designed to damage systems or steal data. Virus is a harmful program that spreads between
files and devices. Hacker is a person who tries to access systems illegally. Encryption means
converting data into secret code so unauthorized people cannot read it. Firewall is a security system
that monitors and blocks dangerous internet traffic.
What is a Cyber Attack?

A cyber attack is an attempt by hackers or criminals to damage, control, or steal information from a
computer system or network. These attacks can target banks, companies, schools, hospitals, or even
normal mobile users. Cyber attacks can cause financial loss, data theft, privacy issues, and fear among
people. Some attackers steal passwords while others completely shut down systems or websites.
Malware Attack

Malware is short for Malicious Software. It includes viruses, worms, spyware, trojans, and ransomware.
Malware secretly enters a device and damages files, steals information, or controls the system. For
example, if a person downloads a fake game or software from an unsafe website, malware can enter
the device. Malware attacks are dangerous because they can slow down systems, steal passwords,
and even spy on users.
Phishing Attack

Phishing is a cyber attack where hackers trick people into giving sensitive information like passwords,
bank details, or OTP codes. Hackers usually send fake emails, messages, or websites that look real.
For example, a user may receive a fake banking message asking to log in urgently. If the user enters
details, the hacker steals the information. Phishing attacks are very common because they target
human emotions and trust.
Ransomware Attack

Ransomware is a dangerous type of malware that locks or encrypts files and demands money to
restore access. Victims usually see a warning message asking for payment. Hospitals, schools, and
businesses have suffered major losses due to ransomware. A famous example is the WannaCry attack
which affected computers worldwide. Regular backups and antivirus protection help reduce
ransomware damage.
DDoS Attack

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. In this attack, hackers flood a website or server with
massive traffic until it crashes. This prevents real users from accessing the service. For example, an
online shopping website may stop working during a DDoS attack. These attacks are often used against
companies, gaming servers, and organizations to cause disruption and financial loss.
Password Attacks

Password attacks happen when hackers try to guess or steal passwords. Some attackers use brute
force attacks where thousands of password combinations are tested automatically. Weak passwords
like 123456 or password are easy to crack. Strong passwords should contain uppercase letters,
lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Two-factor authentication also improves account security.
SQL Injection

SQL Injection is a web attack where hackers insert harmful SQL commands into website forms or
search boxes. This can allow attackers to view, delete, or change database information. For example, a
hacker may steal usernames and passwords from a poorly protected website. Developers prevent SQL
injection using input validation and secure coding techniques.
Social Engineering

Social engineering is the psychological manipulation of people to gain access to confidential

information. Instead of attacking machines, hackers attack human behavior. For example, a hacker
may pretend to be a bank employee and ask for account details. Awareness and education are
important to stop social engineering attacks.
Role of Firewalls

A firewall acts like a digital security guard between a computer and the internet. It monitors incoming
and outgoing traffic and blocks suspicious activity. Firewalls are used in homes, schools, businesses,
and organizations to protect networks from unauthorized access and malware attacks.
Importance of Encryption

Encryption protects information by converting readable data into coded form. Only authorized users
with the correct key can read the data. Encryption is used in banking apps, WhatsApp messages,
online shopping, and websites. It helps protect user privacy and sensitive information from hackers.
Cyber Crimes Examples

Examples of cyber crimes include identity theft, online banking fraud, social media hacking, fake online
shopping websites, and data breaches. Some hackers steal personal photos or private information and
demand money. Cyber crimes can affect both individuals and large organizations.
Protection Methods

Cyber security protection methods include using antivirus software, creating strong passwords,
enabling two-factor authentication, avoiding suspicious links, and regularly updating software. Users
should never share passwords or download unknown files from unsafe websites.
Role of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence helps cyber security experts detect unusual activity and stop attacks quickly. AI
systems can analyze huge amounts of data and identify threats faster than humans. Many companies
now use AI-based security systems to protect customer data and networks.
Future of Cyber Security

The future of cyber security will focus on cloud security, AI protection systems, and quantum
encryption. As technology becomes more advanced, hackers also become smarter. Cyber security
experts will continue developing stronger systems to protect data, businesses, and governments from
future threats.
Cyber Security Careers

Cyber security offers many careers such as Ethical Hacker, Security Analyst, Digital Forensics Expert,
Penetration Tester, and Network Security Engineer. These professionals protect organizations from
hackers and investigate cyber crimes. Cyber security jobs are growing rapidly around the world.
Importance of Awareness

Cyber security awareness teaches people how to stay safe online. Users should learn to recognize fake
links, avoid sharing personal information, and use safe passwords. Schools and companies conduct
awareness programs to reduce cyber attacks caused by human mistakes.
Conclusion

Cyber security is extremely important in the digital age. Every person who uses the internet should
understand cyber threats and protection methods. By following safe online practices and using security
tools, people can protect their data, privacy, and devices from hackers and cyber crimes.
