MODULE-1
INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL MARKETING
Marketing :-
“Marketing is not about promotion or advertising only. Marketing is a complex topic or a
concept which is used to make a comprehensive plan of action or a strategy to increase sell,
create awareness about brands and products etc.”
The definition of digital marketing according to IDM (Institute of Direct and Digital
Marketing) includes ‘the management and execution of marketing using electronic media
such as the web, email, interactive TV, wireless media in conjunction with digital data about
customers characteristics and behavior.’
Digital Devices :-
Digital devices are those that people use almost every day. For example, these can get
used to marketing to a specific audience—computers and mobile phones.
Digital Media:-
Paid or owned digital media channels can be used to reach your target audience. They
include things like online advertising and social media marketing.
Digital Data:-
Data about your target audience used to achieve a marketing goal is called digital data.
You can generally collect data about your target audience through surveys, apps, and
other means.
Digital Technology:-
Digital technology is all about using technology to achieve a marketing goal. Artificial
Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) are a few
examples.
Digital marketing works by using the internet to connect with people who may be interested
in a product or service. Here’s how the process works –
Know your audience :- The first step is to understand who you want to reach. Think
about their age, interests, location and the platforms they use – like Google or Instagram.
Choose the right platforms :- Once you know where your audience spends time, pick
the best channels. This could be a website, email, social media or search engines.
Create and share content :- Next, you create content that speaks to your audience.
This might be blog posts, videos, ads or emails. The goal is to grab attention and drive
action.
Run campaigns:- Businesses often run campaigns around a goal – like promoting a
sale or growing followers. These campaigns are shared on the selected platforms to
reach as many people as possible.
Track and measure results:- Every click, visit, and purchase can be tracked using
digital tools. This helps businesses see what is working and what is not.
Improve and repeat:- Based on the results, strategies are adjusted. If something works
well, do more of it. If not, try a different approach.

to user interaction. In short, the more iterations undertaken, the more effective the
campaign becomes as you seek to adjust and scale based on feedback, customer
engagement, and data.

outcome that is greater than the individual channels on their own. This also involves
integrating both digital and any traditional marketing efforts in a unified way into your
overall marketing campaign strategy.

from the competition. It’s the unique benefit that your product or service offers. Ensure
your USP is clear and compelling, and communicate it consistently across all marketing
channels.
5. Choose Your Marketing Channels: Not all marketing channels will be effective for
your business. Based on your audience research, select the channels that will best reach
your target customers.
7. Set a Budget: Determine how much you’re willing to spend on your marketing
efforts. Allocate your budget across different channels and tactics based on their
expected Return on Investment (ROI). Be prepared to adjust your budget as you track
the performance of your campaigns.
8. Implement and Monitor: Execute your marketing plan with attention to detail. Use
project management tools to keep track of tasks and deadlines. Once your campaigns
are live, continuously monitor their performance. Utilize analytics tools to measure key
metrics such as website traffic, conversion rates, and customer engagement.
10. Foster Customer Relationships: Build strong customer relationships for repeat
business and referrals. Engage on social media, respond to feedback, and provide
excellent service. Use loyalty programs and personalized marketing to boost retention.

Although specific marketing objectives can vary based on a company’s products, services,
and target audiences, there are a few common online marketing objectives that every
marketer tries to achieve. We have listed some of those goals below:
The 7Ps of Digital Marketing are essential elements that help create effective marketing
strategies:
1. Product: The goods or services offered to meet customer needs.
2. Price: The amount charged for the product, influencing demand and profitability.
3. Promotion: The activities that communicate the product's benefits and persuade
customers to purchase.

Budgeting and resource allocation are crucial aspects of planning, particularly in the context
of finance.
On the other hand, budgeting is a more detailed process that determines precisely how
these funds are to be used1. A budget is a financial plan used to estimate revenues and
expenditures for a specific period of [Link] assists in the allocation of resources.
These two processes are interconnected and play a vital role in financial management and
planning. They help ensure that resources are used wisely and that goals are met within the
constraints of the budget.
There are several common budgeting techniques that companies and individuals use to
manage their finances. Some of the most popular methods include:
Incremental budgeting: This method takes the previous period's actual figures and adds
or subtracts a percentage to generate the current budget. It is a straightforward approach
that is often used when primary income sources and expenses are similar from year to year.
Activity-based budgeting: This top-down type of budget determines the amount of inputs
required based on the cost of the activities that contribute to the production of goods or
services.
Value proposition budgeting: This method focuses on maximizing the value delivered to
customers by allocating resources to activities that directly contribute to customer
satisfaction.
Zero-based budgeting: This method requires that each expense be justified for each new
period, starting from a 'zero base. It is a more time-consuming approach, but it can help
identify areas where costs can be reduced.
Digital marketing campaign plans break down the business marketing goals into
smaller, actionable tasks.
The purpose of planning out a digital campaign is to help you articulate who your
audience is, what goal you want to achieve, and the process you're going to take to achieve
that goal.
