ABSTRACT
The Electromagnetic Braking System (EMBS) is an advanced non-contact braking
mechanism that uses electromagnetic force to control motion. Unlike conventional braking
systems that rely on friction and physical contact, EMBS minimizes wear and energy loss,
resulting in improved efficiency and durability. The system mainly consists of a DC motor, a
chain and sprocket mechanism, an electromagnetic solenoid actuator, and a battery power
supply. The working principle is based on electromagnetic induction. When electric current
flows through the solenoid coil, it generates a magnetic field that attracts the armature and
produces a braking force opposing the motion of the rotating shaft. This braking force can be
precisely controlled by adjusting the current supplied to the coil, allowing smooth and
effective braking performance. The DC motor provides the initial mechanical motion, while
the chain and sprocket ensure efficient transmission of torque under different load
conditions. The electromagnetic braking action then counteracts this motion, demonstrating
reliable speed control and stopping capability. One of the key advantages of EMBS is its fast
response time, as the magnetic field is generated instantly. Additionally, the absence of
direct mechanical contact reduces wear and tear, leading to lower maintenance and longer
operational life. The system is also energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, with the
potential to integrate renewable energy sources like solar power. This system can be
effectively used in automotive and industrial applications, especially as an auxiliary braking
system in heavy vehicles where conventional brakes may overheat. With further
improvements using sensors and electronic control systems, EMBS can be developed into an
intelligent braking solution for modern transportation. Overall, it offers a reliable, efficient,
and scalable alternative to traditional braking systems.
