How to Write an Introduction
1. Purpose of the Introduction
The introduction is the first section of the research paper. Its purpose is to:

2. Length
Usually 1–2 paragraphs (school level)
Clear and focused (not too long)
3. Structure of a Good Introduction

Importance
Aim / question
5. Full Example (Professional Introduction)
Topic: Ethical Business Practices
In today’s global economy, ethical behaviour has become a significant concern for businesses. Organizations
are expected not only to achieve profit but also to operate in a responsible and ethical manner. Ethical
business practices influence various aspects of an organization, including its reputation, customer
relationships, and long-term sustainability. This topic is important because unethical behaviour can lead to
serious consequences such as legal issues and loss of public trust. Therefore, this research aims to examine the
importance of ethical business practices and their role in ensuring business success.
6. Common Mistakes
Students should avoid:
Starting directly with definitions only
Writing too much detail
Adding results or conclusions
Using personal opinions (e.g., “I think”)
Being too general or unclear
7. Important Tips
✔ Start broad → then narrow down
✔ Keep language formal and clear
✔ Do NOT include findings (that comes later)
✔ End with research aim or question
