Good morning to our dear teacher and fellow classmates, welcome to our
presentation. I'm Maly, I'm Fily, I'm Heng and I'm Ratana, we are from group 6.
Today we will be talking about a serious global issue that impacts all of our lives is
climate change. Let’s begin.
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather
patterns, according from google. On this note, our group will dive into the causes,
impacts and solutions of this global problem.
Cause of climate change
Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The primary driver of current climate change is
the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Human
activities such as burning fossil fuels for energy, industrial processes,
deforestation, and agriculture release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide
(CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) into the atmosphere. These
gases trap heat, leading to a warming effect known as the greenhouse effect.
Deforestation: Trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere
during photosynthesis. Deforestation, reduces the number of trees capable of
absorbing CO2, leading to increased greenhouse gas concentrations in the
atmosphere.
Transportation: The combustion of fossil fuels in vehicles for transportation is
a major source of CO2 emissions, contributing to climate change. Additionally,
transportation-related activities release other pollutants that can indirectly
influence climate, such as black carbon (soot).
Evidence for Climate Change facts
Although it is confusing and frightening to have to face the reality of
climate change, there are facts that back up and are evidence for climate change.
There is the most CO2 in the air in the past two million years.
1.2 trillion tonnes of ice are melting each year. As a reference, a
combination of all human-made things is 1.1 trillion tonnes.
In 2019, 302.4 billion work hours have been lost through being too hot to
work.
Severe hot weather events used to happen on average once every 10 years
between 1850 and 1900 but now likely occur 2.8 times every 10 years.
Heavy rains and floods have quadrupled since the 1980s and doubled since
2004.
Impact of climate change
Impact of climate change include Hotter Temperatures, A Warming, Not
enough food. These Impact Threaten our health by affecting the food we eat, the
water we drink, the air we breathe, and the weather we experience.
Hotter Temperatures:
- Nearly all land areas are seeing more hot days and related illnesses and
can make it more difficult to work and move around. Wildfires start
more easily and spread more rapidly when conditions and hotter.
A Warming:
- Rising ocean the ocean soaks up most of the heat
from global warming. The ocean also absorbs carbon dioxide, keeping it
from the atmosphere. More carbon dioxide makes the ocean more
acidic, which endangers marine life.
Not enough food:
- Changes in climate and increases in extreme weather event are among
the reasons behind a global rise in hunger and poor nutrition. Fisheries
Crops, and livestock may be destroyed or become less productive. Heat
stress can diminish water and grasslands for grazing.
Mitigation & Adaptation
Mitigation:
-Renewable energy: As technology advances, new ways to harvest renewable
energy, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, are emerging. Installing
solar panels, wind turbines, and other suitable renewable energy technologies
promotes a transition to more sustainable power sources.
-Reforestation: Implementing large-scale reforestation and encouraging local
tree planting will help reduce rising temperatures and improve the local
ecosystem.
-Carbon pricing: A carbon price is a government-imposed cost on carbon
emissions to reduce pollution from large businesses.
Adaptation:
-Climate resilient infrastructure: Designing resilient infrastructure for extreme
weather will reduce future repair costs and prepare us for unstable conditions.
- Water management: Efficient water management extends our limited supply.
Strategies include reusing water for plants, collecting rainwater, shortening
showers, and promoting these practices to others.
Climate change is an urgent global crisis that demands immediate action.
To mitigate its impacts, we must prioritize renewable energy, sustainable
practices, and international cooperation. Failure to act swiftly risks irreversible
damage to our planet and future generations.
