3. Differentiate between living and non-living things. Give two examples each.
Ans.

4. What is PETA? What is its full form? Write about a project taken up by PETA for
the betterment of the environment.
Ans. PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It is a group
that works to help animals. They want people to be kind to animals and not hurt
them.
One project PETA talks about is called “Go Vegan for the Planet.” This project
asks people to eat plant-based food like fruits, vegetables, and grains instead of
meat.
5. Suggest some measures to curb pollution.
Ans. Pollution can be reduced by the following measures.
a. Stop wasting Paper and Water.
b. Instead of using plastic or polythene bags, use cloth or jute bags.
c. Save energy by switching off electric equipment when not in use.
d. Opt for carpooling and public transport.
e. Dispose waste only into the dustbins.
6. Is soil a living or a non-living thing? Discuss and justify your answer.
Ans. Soil is non-living, but it has many living things inside it, like worms, insects,
and tiny microbes. These living things help plants to grow. So even though soil
itself is non-living, it supports life and is very important for nature.
7. What is pollution?
Ans. The over-use, dirtying and spoiling of natural resources to create an
imbalance in the environment is called pollution.
8. What is noise pollution?
Ans. A loud or unpleasant sound that causes disturbance is called noise. Excessive
noise that harms the balance of human or animal life is called noise pollution.
9. What is land pollution?
Ans. Land pollution is caused by disposal of plastic and household wastes and
excessive use of chemical fertilizers on land. It makes the land unfit for use and
makes the soil infertile for growing crops.
10. What is water pollution?
Ans. The pure and fresh water of rivers and lakes are dirtied by human activities
such as throwing garbage into the water bodies, washing clothes and bathing in
them, disposing of chemical and industrial waste into rivers and lakes etc causes
water pollution.
11. What is air pollution?
Ans. The activities like emissions from industries, smoke from the vehicles,
burning of garbage and clearing of forest release poisonous gases and imbalance in
the atmosphere is called air pollution.
12. What is natural environment?
Ans. Things such as plants, animals, rivers, lakes, soil, air, mountains, etc. that
have been given to us by Mother Nature is called natural environment.
13. What is man-made environment?
Ans. Things that are made by humans such as buildings, houses, schools, bridges,

causes water pollution.
This makes the water unfit for use.

Ans. Even though 70-75% of the Earth is covered with water, we need to save it
because only a small portion of water is fresh and clean for us to drink, use for
cooking, and help plants grow. If we waste water or pollute it, we may not have
enough clean water to use in the future.
5. What is atmosphere? Explain the causes of air pollution?
Ans. The layer of air that surrounds the Earth is called the atmosphere. Emissions
from industries, smoke from vehicles, burning of garbage, and clearing of forest
are the causes of air pollution.
