INTRODUCTION of
Remote control home appliance

Remote-control home appliances are modern

electronic devices that can be operated from
a distance using technologies such as
infrared signals, radio frequency, Bluetooth,
Wi-Fi, or mobile applications. These
appliances have become an important part
of today’s smart lifestyle because they make
daily household activities easier, faster, and
more convenient. Instead of manually
operating devices like lights, fans,
televisions, air conditioners, washing
machines, or even security systems, users
can control them with a remote control,
smartphone, or voice assistant from
anywhere inside the house and sometimes
even from outside the home. 📱🏠
The main purpose of remote-control home
appliances is to improve comfort, safety, and
energy efficiency. For example, a person can
switch off lights or fans without moving from
their place, adjust the temperature of an air
conditioner before reaching home, or
monitor security cameras while traveling.
This technology is especially helpful for
elderly people, busy individuals, and people
with physical disabilities, as it reduces
physical effort and saves time. It also helps
prevent unnecessary electricity usage, which
supports energy conservation and reduces
electricity bills. ⚡

BLOCK DIAGRAM
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:
CIRCUIT WORKING

The circuit works as a remote-controlled switch

for home appliances. When a remote control
button is pressed, the TSOP IR receiver detects
the infrared signal and converts it into electrical
pulses. These pulses are amplified by the BC557
transistor and sent to the CD4017 decade
counter IC.
The CD4017 IC changes its output state with
each pulse received. This output controls the
ULN2803 driver IC, which activates the relay. The
relay then turns the connected appliance ON or
OFF.
The bridge rectifier (B1) converts AC supply into
DC, and the 7805 voltage regulator provides a
constant 5V supply to the circuit. The LED
indicators (red and green) show the ON/OFF
status of the appliance.

PCB MANUFACTURING
PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is manufactured
by the photolithographic method. Firstly, a
negative of the PCB artwork is created. The
artwork is set on a write sheet and exposed
to ultraviolet (UV) rays inside a UV unit. The
UV exposure is done for about 10 seconds,
during which the UV rays reflect through the
artwork onto the coated film. After
exposure, the sheet is placed in a developer
solution for 2–3 minutes to develop the
image. Then the film is further placed in a
fixture for 5 minutes, washed properly, and
marked. After marking, the negative (-ve)
copper-clad sheet is placed and dipped in
photoresist material. It is then dried using a
photo-accruing (curing) machine for about
10 minutes.
The dried sheet is again exposed to UV rays
for 2–3 minutes with a white sheet removed.
After this, it is placed in the developer
solution for proper development.
PCB LAYOUT
Components layout
Components description
1. Relay 12v : The 12V relay (RL1) acts
like an electrical switch to control the
230V AC motor.
When the 555 timer output is HIGH, it
turns ON the transistor (T1).
This allows current to flow through the
relay coil, energizing it.
The relay then switches from NC to NO
contact, turning the motor ON..
2. IC (CD4017) , (ULN2803) : The
CD4017 is a 16-pin CMOS decade
counter/divider IC that counts up to 10
pulses, commonly used for LED chasers
and sequential switching. It operates
between 3V and 15V, features 10
decoded outputs that go high
sequentially, and is often paired with a
555 timer for clock pulses.
ULN2803: The ULN2803 is an 8-channel
Darlington transistor array IC designed to drive
high-current, high-voltage loads (up to 50V,
500mA per channel) using low-level logic signals
(5V TTL/CMOS). It is ideal for switching solenoids,
motors, relays, and LED displays, featuring built-
in suppression diodes for inductive loads and an
inverting, open-collector output.
3. Voltage regulator (7805): The
7805 is a 3-terminal, fixed positive
voltage regulator IC that provides a
steady 5V output from an input voltage
between 7V and 35V, supporting up to
1.5A current. It features built-in thermal
overload and short-circuit protection,
commonly used in TO-220 packages for
power supplies, microcontrollers, and
hobbyist electronics.
4. Transistor (BC557): A
transistorBC557 is a semiconductor
device that amplifies or switches
electrical signals and power, serving as a
fundamental building block of modern
electronics. It uses a small voltage or
current at one terminal to control a
much larger current flowing through
other terminals, enabling it to act as an
amplifier or a fast electronic switch.
5. Resistors 1k ,100 ohm,220k: A
resistor is a passive two-terminal
electrical component that implements
electrical resistance to limit current flow,
divide voltages, and reduce signal levels
in electronic circuits. It is mainly used in
electron...
6. Capacitor1000uf/25v,0.1uf(104):
A capacitor 1000uf/25v,0.1uf(104):
is a passive electronic component that
stores electrical energy in an electric
field by accumulating charge on two
conductive plates separated by an
insulating material (dielectric). Key
functions include smoothing power
supplies, filtering noise, and blocking DC
while allowing AC to pass. They are
foundational to modern electronics,
including smartphones and motors.

7. LED (red, green): Green LEDs are

semiconductor light sources emitting green
light, commonly used as indicator lamps, in
displays, and for energy-efficient lighting.
Typically operating around they are available
in 3mm and 5mm sizes, featuring high
brightness, long lifespan, and low power
consumption.

Red LED: A red LED (Light Emitting Diode) is

a semiconductor device that emits red light
when an electric current passes through it in
forward bias condition. It works efficiently at
low voltage and consumes very less power.
The LED glows due to the recombination of
electrons and holes, which releases energy in
the form of light. It is widely used in
indicators, displays, and electronic circuits
because of its long life, small size, and high
reliability.
8. Power jack (ADAPT001): A DC power jack
adapter is used to connect an external power
supply to an electronic circuit. It provides a
secure and stable connection between the
adapter and the device. The jack usually has
two or three terminals for positive and
negative connections. It is widely used in
power supply circuits, battery charging
systems, and small electronic projects. Its
main advantage is easy connection,
durability, and reliable power transfer.
Jack male type (JACK001): A Male Type Jack
(JACK001) is an electrical connector used to
supply power to electronic devices. It is called
“male” because it has a protruding pin that fits
into a female socket (power jack).
9. Connecting wires : Connecting
wires are essential components in
electrical and electronic circuits.
They are used to carry current from
one point to another and ensure
proper connection between different
components. Good quality wires with
proper insulation help in safe and
efficient transmission of electricity.
Without connecting wires, it is not
possible to complete a circuit or
make any electronic device function
properly.

APPLICATION

conditioners can be controlled
without manual switches. This
increases comfort and convenience
for users.
 Secondly, it is very helpful for
elderly and physically disabled
people, as they can control
appliances easily without moving
from one place.
 Thirdly, it helps in energy saving,
because users can turn off
appliances remotely, avoiding
unnecessary power consumption.
 It is also used in smart homes and
IoT-based systems, where appliances
can be controlled through mobile
apps or remote devices using
technologies like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or
IR.
