IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW GUIDE

I. INTRODUCTORY SCRIPT

Good day. My name is Kenneth John F. Opren, and I am conducting a mixed


method research study as part of my academic requirements. This study is entitled
“Effectiveness of Video-Based Instruction in Enhancing Student Engagement in
Araling Panlipunan 10”.

The purpose of this interview is to understand your experiences, perceptions,


and level of engagement when exposed to both traditional and video-based instruction. I
am particularly interested in how these teaching approaches influence your
participation, interest, and learning.

Your participation is voluntary, and you may choose not to answer any question
or stop the interview at any time. All information you provide will be treated with strict
confidentiality, and your identity will remain anonymous. With your permission, I would
like to record this interview for accuracy.

II. WARM-UP QUESTIONS


1. Can you tell me a little about yourself as a learner in Araling Panlipunan 10?
2. How would you describe your usual level of participation in class?
3. What teaching methods are you commonly exposed to in your Araling Panlipunan
class?
III. CORE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1. How do you understand and describe your engagement during traditional and
video-based instruction in Araling Panlipunan 10?

Probes:

 What does being “engaged” mean to you?


 How do you behave when you are engaged in a lesson?
 How do you feel during engaging vs. non-engaging lessons?

2. Can you describe how traditional instruction influenced your engagement in


terms of your participation, feelings, and thinking?

Probes:

 How often do you participate during traditional lessons?


 How interested or motivated do you feel?
 Does it help you understand the lesson deeply? How?

3. Can you describe how video-based instruction influenced your engagement in


terms of your participation, feelings, and thinking?

 Did you become more active in class? In what ways?


 How did the videos affect your interest or motivation?
 Did they help you understand or analyze lessons better?

4. How do you compare your engagement between traditional instruction and


video-based instruction?

Probes:

 Which method made you more attentive or focused? Why?


 Which encouraged you to participate more?
 Which helped you learn more effectively?

5. Based on your experience, do you think your level of engagement changed


after the use of video-based instruction?

Probes:

 Did your participation increase or decrease? How?


 Did your interest in the subject change?
 Can you give specific examples of these changes?

6. Do your personal experiences support the results of the survey or quantitative


findings about student engagement? Why or why not?

VI. ALIGNMENT STATEMENT
This interview guide is aligned with the research objectives of the study.
Objective 4 is addressed through Core Questions 1 to 4, which explore students’
understanding, perceptions, and development of engagement across traditional and
video-based instruction in terms of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions.
Objective 5 is addressed through Core Questions 5 to 7, which examine how qualitative
findings support, explain, and validate the quantitative results regarding student
engagement.

VII. ETHICAL REMINDER


Participation in this study is voluntary. You may decline to answer any question or
withdraw at any time without consequence. All responses will be kept confidential, and
identifying information will be removed. Data will be used solely for academic purposes
and stored securely.
