1. Abstract
Footstep power generation is a non-conventional method of generating electricity by using
human footsteps. This system converts mechanical energy produced during walking into
electrical energy using piezoelectric sensors. The generated energy is stored in a battery
and can be used to power small electrical devices such as LEDs and sensors. This method is
eco-friendly and utilizes renewable energy that is otherwise wasted.
2. Introduction
Footstep power generation is an innovative technology that produces electricity from human
movement. When a person walks over a specially designed platform, pressure is applied to
piezoelectric sensors, which generate electrical voltage.
This system:
Converts mechanical energy into electrical energy
Uses renewable energy sources
Can be installed in public places such as railway stations, malls, and airports
Example: If a large number of people walk over the system daily, significant energy can be
generated to power small devices.
3. Need of the System
Increasing demand for electricity
Need for renewable energy sources
Utilization of wasted human energy
Eco-friendly power generation
This system is especially useful in crowded areas with continuous human movement.

4. Materials Required
The following components are used in the project:
Piezoelectric Sensors
Arduino UNO
Rectifier Diodes (1N4007)
Resistors and Capacitors
Transistors
Voltage Regulator
LCD Display
12V Rechargeable Battery
Inverter
Fiberglass Footstep Plate
Springs and Mechanical Frame
5. Block Diagram Explanation
Energy Flow:
Footstep → Piezoelectric Sensors → Rectifier → Filter → Battery → Inverter → Load
Footstep pressure generates voltage
Rectifier converts AC to DC
Battery stores energy
Load (LED/Street light) uses the energy

6. Working Principle
The system works on the principle of the piezoelectric effect.
Steps:
1. When a person steps on the platform, pressure is applied
2. Piezoelectric sensors generate electrical voltage
3. The generated voltage is AC and unstable
4. A bridge rectifier converts AC into DC
5. A capacitor smooths the voltage
6. The energy is stored in a battery
7. An inverter converts DC into AC for usable output
Thus, mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy.
7. Piezoelectric Effect
Piezoelectric materials generate electrical charge when mechanical pressure is applied.
Common materials:
Quartz
PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate)
Ceramic crystals
Example: When pressure is applied to a piezoelectric sensor, it deforms slightly and produces
electrical voltage.
