b) If the hire purchase payment is 20% more than cash payment, find the cash price
(2 marks)

7. From the balcony of a house, a boy can see a watch tower which is 20 m away from the house. He
measures the angle of elevation of the top of the tower as 15° and the angle of depression of the
bottom of the tower as 30°. Find the height of the tower. (3

8. An irregular polygon has three of its interior angles measuring 150 ° each, while the rest of the
interior angle measures 90° each. Calculate the number of sides of the polygon and name it.

9. A sum of Sh. 20 000 was invested at 24% p.a compound interest in a certain bank that was adding the
interest after every three months. Find the amount to the nearest shilling after 3 years

10. Find a quadratic equation where roots are 1.5 + √2 and 1.5 - √2, expressing it in the form ax2 + bx +
c = 0, where a, b and c are integers (3marks)
11. The length and breadth of a rectangular flower garden were measured and found to be 4.1m and
2.2m respectively. Find the percentage error in its area (3marks)

12. The cost of a matatu was Ksh 950 000. It depreciated in value by 5% per year for the first 2 years
and 15% per year for the subsequent years. Calculate the value of the matatu after 5 years.

13. The position vectors of three points P,Q and R are such that P = 2i + 3j +4k, q = -i – 2j + k and r = 5i
+ 8j + 7k. Show that the points P,Q and R lie on a straight line. (3marks)

Ksh.300, 000 and the interest rate is 15%p.a. A deposit of Ksh.75, 000 is made. Calculate her monthly

17. Mwangi truncated 7/9 to 3 decimal places. Calculate the percentage error resulting from the
truncating. (3mks)

18. A point C divides the line AB with coordinates A (3, 4 ,-5) , B (-1,10,7) externally in the ratio

bought.

allowance of Ksh. 10 000 and Ksh. 4 000 respectively.
a) Calculate his monthly taxable income in Ksh. (1 mark)

c) The civil servant is entitled to a monthly tax relief of Sh. 1060 and insurance relief of 10% on
premiums above Sh. 2 000. From his income he pays 2% of his basic salary to WCPS and
insurance premium of Ksh. 4500. Calculate his net monthly pay in Ksh. (3mks)

d) If in a certain month, the civil servant used 40% of his gross salary to buy a radio whose
depreciation is provided at 8% p.a, determine how long it would take to the nearest a year,
for the value of radio to reduce to Ksh. 10 822. (3 marks)
