1. Define centre of curvature of spherical mirror? 1
DIRECTION: For question numbers 10, two statements are given- one labelled Assertion (A) and
the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a),
(b), (c) and (d) as given below: 1
(a) Both A and R are true and R is correct explanation of the assertion.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) Both A and R are false.
2. Assertion: Refraction is the phenomenon of bending of light when light travels from one
medium to another.
Reason: when light travels from one medium to another, speed of light changes .
3. Convex mirror is used as a rear view mirror in vehicles. Since the image of the object formed is
small in size, the field of view is increased. Convex mirror is also used in street lights to diverge
light over a large area. 4
(i) The nature of image in driver’s mirror is-
(a) Erect and diminished (b) Virtual and undiminished
(c) Erect and magnified (d) Virtual and magnified
(ii) A convex mirror is used to form the image of an object. Then which of the following statement
is wrong.
(a) The image lies between the pole and the focus.
(b) The image is diminished in size.
(c) The image is erect. (d) The image is real
(iii) The field of view of convex mirror is .......... as compared to plane mirror.
(a) large (b) small
(c) equal (d) none of these
(iv) If instead of convex mirror concave mirror is used what will be the consequence.
(a)Image will be diminished and field of view will be large
(b)Image will be inverted and field of view will be small
(c)Image will be large and erect always
(d)Image will be inverted and real always.
4. Draw a ray diagram to show the image formation when object is (i) at C and (ii) between P and
F in front of concave mirror. 3
5(i) An object is placed at a distance of 15 cm from the convex lens of focal length 20cm. Find
the nature and position of the image formed. 2
(ii) State the laws of refraction of light. Explain the term ‘absolute refractive index of a medium’
and write an expression to relate it with the speed of light in vacuum. 3
Chemistry
6. Explain, why food products containing fats and oil are packaged in nitrogen? 1
7. Why does an aqueous solution of acid conduct electricity? 1
8. Read the following and answer any four questions from: 4
An indicator is a special chemical that changes its colour to indicate the presence of a chemical
substance. It is used to confirm the presence of an acid, a base or a neutral solution. Litmus paper
is the most commonly used indicator. It is a purple dye which is extracted from plant ‘lichen’.
Litmus paper comes in two colours-blue and red. There are many other natural materials like
turmeric, red cabbage leave, and coloured petals of some flowers such as petunia, which indicate
the presence of acid or base in a solution. These are called acid-base indicators. These
indicators tell us whether a substance is acidic or basic through colour changes.
8.1 The indicator which turns red in acid solution is:
(a) Turmeric and litmus (b) phenolphthalein and methyl orange
(c) Litmus and methyl orange (d) phenolphthalein and Litmus
8.2 Which of the following is an olfactory indicator?
(a) Litmus (b) Petunia leaves
(c) Turmeric (d) Vanilla essence
8.3 The indicator which produces a pink colour in an alkaline solution is:
(a) Phenolphthalein (b) Turmeric
(c) Litmus (d) Methyl orange
8.4 Litmus is extracted from a plant called:
(a) Hydrangea (b) Lichen
(c) Geranium (d) Petunia
9. Translate the following statements into balanced chemical equations. 2
(i) Sodium metal reacts with water to give sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas.
(ii) Hydrogen sulphide gas burns in air to give water and sulphur dioxide.
10. What is redox reaction? Identify in the following reactions: 2
(i) The substance oxidized and (ii) the substance reduced
2H2 S + SO2 2H2 O + 3S
11. The given diagram displays a chemical reaction. Observe carefully and answer the following
questions: 3
(i) Identify the type of chemical reaction that will take place and define it.
(ii) How will the colour of the salt change?
(iii) Mention one commercial use of this salt.
(iv) Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction involve
Biology
12. The opening and closing of the stomatal pores depends upon: 1
(a) oxygen (b) water in guard cells
(c) temperature (d) concentration of CO 2
13. Lack of oxygen in muscles often leads to cramps in the legs of sprinters. This is due to
conversion of pyruvate to: 1
(a)ethanol (b) carbon dioxide
(c)acetic acid (d) lactic acid
14. The process of digestion in humans is completed in: 1
(a) oesophagus (b) small intestine
(c) stomach (d) large intestine

DIRECTION:For question number 18, two statements are given- one labelled Assertion (A) and
the otherlabelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b),
(c) and (d) as given below: 1
(a) Both A and R are true and R is correct explanation of the A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of the A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) Both A and R are false.
