Framing Questions – Notes with Examples
1. What is a Question?
A question is a sentence used to ask for information. It usually ends with a question mark (?).
2. Types of Questions
A. WH-Questions (Information Questions)
These questions begin with WH-words and ask for specific information.
Common WH-Words:
What – asks about things
Where – asks about place
When – asks about time
Who – asks about person
Why – asks for reason
Which – asks about choice
How – asks about manner/process
Examples of WH-Questions with Answers
1. What is your name?
2. Where do you live?
3. When is your exam?
4. Who is your teacher?
5. Why are you late?
6. Which subject do you like?
7. How do you go to school?
Structure of WH-Questions
WH-word + helping verb + subject + main verb
Example:
Where + do + you + live?
B. Yes/No Questions (Closed Questions)
These questions can be answered with “Yes” or “No.”
Examples of Yes/No Questions with Answers
1. Are you a student?
2. Can you swim?
3. Did you complete your homework?
4. Do you like coffee ?
5. Is she your friend?
Structure of Yes/No Questions
Helping verb + subject + main verb
Example:
Do + you + like tea?

Definitions & Examples
1. Capitalization (Use of Capital Letters)
Definition:
Capitalization means writing the first letter of a word in uppercase. It is used to give proper
structure and clarity to sentences.
Rules with Examples:
Beginning of a sentence:
→ She is a good student.
Names of people:
→ Ravi is my friend.
Names of places:
→ I live in Bangalore.
Days and months:
→ Sunday is a holiday.
→ My birthday is in June.
Names of books or titles:
→ I read “The Alchemist.”
2. Full Stop (.)
Definition:
A full stop is used at the end of a statement to show that the sentence is complete.
Examples:
She is playing.
I like music.
They went to school.
3. Comma (,)
Definition:
A comma is used to separate words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence.
Uses with Examples:
In a list:
→ I bought apples, bananas, and oranges.
After introductory words:
→ Yes, I understand.
To separate clauses:
→ She was tired, so she went to bed.
4. Question Mark (?)
Definition:
A question mark is used at the end of a question.
Examples:
What is your name?
Where are you going?
Do you like coffee?
5. Exclamatory Mark (!) (Exclamation Mark)
Definition:
An exclamatory mark is used to show strong feelings or emotions such as surprise, joy,
anger, or excitement.
Examples:
Wow! That is amazing!
Oh no! I forgot my book!
Hurray! We won the match!
For example
ravi went to the market he bought apples bananas and oranges then he met his friend rahul
they talked for some time and went home
Answer:
Ravi went to the market. He bought apples, bananas, and oranges. Then he met his friend
Rahul. They talked for some time and went home.
What is a paragraph?
Answer:
A paragraph is a group of sentences that focus on a single idea and are arranged in a logical
order.
Examples:
Sentences:
(A) It gives us oxygen and keeps the air clean.
(B) Trees are very important for our life.
(C) We should plant more trees to save the environment.
(D) They also provide shelter to animals.
Answer:
(B) Trees are very important for our life.
(A) It gives us oxygen and keeps the air clean.
(D) They also provide shelter to animals.
(C) We should plant more trees to save the environment.
Sentences:
(A) It is very important to drink enough water every day.
(B) Water helps our body stay healthy and active.
(C) It also keeps our skin fresh and clean.
(D) Therefore, we should develop the habit of drinking water regularly.
Answer:

Active to Passive Voice
Active: Ram wrote a letter.
Passive: A letter was written by Ram.
Active: She is singing a song.
Passive: A song is being sung by her.
Active: They will complete the work.
Passive: The work will be completed by them.
Active: He has finished the homework.
Passive: The homework has been finished by him.
Direct to Indirect Speech
Direct: He said, “I am happy.”
Indirect: He said that he was happy.
Direct: She said, “I will come tomorrow.”
Indirect: She said that she would come the next day.
Direct: Ravi said, “I am reading a book.”
Indirect: Ravi said that he was reading a book.
Direct: She said, “I have finished my work.”
Indirect: She said that she had finished her work.
Assertive to Exclamatory
1. Assertive: It is a very beautiful place.
Exclamatory: What a beautiful place it is!
2. Assertive: She is very happy.
Exclamatory: How happy she is!
3. Assertive: The flower is very सुंदर (beautiful).
Exclamatory: What a beautiful flower it is!
4. Assertive: He is very brave.
Exclamatory: How brave he is!
