Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Differentiate between files in programming languages and a database management

system

• Describe the fundamental data models, including Entity-relationship, and relational

• Explain the basic concepts of relational database design

• Design an extended ER-model to represent practical database application scenarios to be

realized as a working mobile friendly Web interface

• Code queries in relational algebra, Calculus, and SQL

• Convert the ER-model to relational tables, populate relational database and formulate
SQL queries on data.

• Improve an existing database design by normalization.
