Descriptive Writing Examples IGCSE

Night Sky
• Her eyes turned to the night firmament which was surrounded by the cluster of the
stars which conquered the starry sky and filled it with the light. She wanted her heart to
be like the seemingly dark welkin which is holding the night in the moment of darkness
too like it is not letting go of hope for the next day. With the thought of the night sky,
the twinkling sound of water in the lake, the smooth touch of the grass, she closed her
eyes and felt her sinking heart as she was expecting it to swim out of the pond of
despair

Morning sun/clouds (sky)

• Just as I arrived, it so happened the sky began to glow as the flaming orb rose from the horizon
and ignited the sky, causing it to burst into a bright, passionate mix of scarlet and yellow.

• The clouds had no place in the morning sky as the majestic sun reigned supreme.

• A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had
begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded away,
and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful.

Sight
• As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that
moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up.

• The buttery pastry, lathered with what looked like the finest of chocolate was resting on top of a
searing cup of golden-white liquid.

• There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on.

Sound/Hearing
• The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling
onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my
face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed-up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all
mixed into one

• I walk deeper into the ____ (place). Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It
brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and
pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams.

Natural disasters
• The tornado was a child, grabbing up housing like its toys and throwing them down again so
carelessly. The child stomped, crashing into all below it, ignoring the cries of the lives destroyed
below. The tornado's wind wailed; the child screamed in fury.

• Like a maniac with a gun, the ashen clouds blasted the terrain with hefty rain drops, breaking
the earth and sending out eruptions of dust and dirt into the grimy air.

Others
• Following that __________, an emerald green bench held me as I attempted to process the
aroma of the sweet lavender which filled the air. A gentle touch smashed all the thoughts inside
my head. My heart rate grew wide as my neck turned behind. The reflection of my most beloved
hit my eyes!

• His deep grey eyes took in the surroundings but his pursed lips did not reveal any of his thoughts.
