Problems 1

The document contains various physics problems related to optics, wave mechanics, and acoustics, including calculations for wavelengths, numerical apertures, acceptance angles, and reverberation times. Specific scenarios involve Newton's rings, step index fibers, diffraction gratings, and wave equations. Each problem requires applying relevant formulas and principles to derive the necessary physical quantities.

In a Newton's rings experiment the diameter of the 15th ring was found to be 0.59 cm and that of the 5th ring was 0.336 cm. If the radius of the plano convex lens is
100 cm, calculate the wavelength of light used.

The refractive index of core and cladding for a step index fibre are 1.53 and 1.39 respectively. Find its numerical aperture and acceptance angle.

The numerical aperture of a step index fibre of core diameter 100 μm is 0.26. If the refractive index of the core is 1.5, find (i)the refractive index of the
cladding and (ii) acceptance angle

When light of wavelength 589 nm is used, diameter of 6th dark ring formed is 7 mm. Evaluate radius of curvature of the lens used.

An electron is confined in an infinite square well of width 2.5X10-10 m. Evaluate lowest energy electron in eV.

An electron is accelerated through a potential difference of 200 Volts. Find the de-Broglie wavelength of electron. Assume Charge of electron 1.6×10−19 C, mass of
the electron 9.1x10-31 kg and h=6.625x10-34 Js.

A cinema hall has a volume of 8000 m3. What should be the total absorption in the hall so that the reverberation time is made to 2 seconds.

The dimension of auditorium is 80x20x10 and its average absorption coefficient is [Link] the reverberation time of auditorium.

A piece of wire 60 cm length is stretched by a load of 9.8 N. Its mass is 2.5g. Calculate the fundamental frequency.

The equation of transverse wave vibration of a stretched string is given by ψ=5sin 5π(x/50 –t/0.02) where x and ψ are in cm and t in s. Find the frequency and
