ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the development of an integrated pick-
and-place automation system that combines a 5-DOF robotic arm with
a smart conveyor belt. The motivation behind this work is to
demonstrate how low-cost automation technologies can be used to
improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in material handling
tasks. In many industrial environments, repetitive tasks such as
sorting, counting, and placing objects require significant manual effort
and are prone to human error. By implementing a sensor-based
conveyor system and an articulated robotic arm controlled by an
Arduino microcontroller, this project aims to illustrate how basic
automation concepts can replicate fundamental industrial processes
in an educational and prototype-friendly setup.
The system integrates two major subsystems: a sensor-enabled
smart conveyor and a programmable robotic arm capable of
performing pick-and-place operations. The conveyor uses sensors to
detect objects and communicate with the Arduino controller, which
counts the items and triggers the robotic arm sequence. The 5-DOF
robotic arm then executes a pre-programmed motion routine to pick
the object from the conveyor and place it into a designated location.
Through this integration of sensing, control, and mechanical actuation,
the project demonstrates a compact automated workflow that
highlights the practical applications of embedded systems, robotics,
and industrial automation principles.
