Now you have reached Module 4. In this module you will acquire the following

and brackets.
2. You will be introduced to the “Nesting Concept” as it applies to braille.
3. In the Numeric Mode you will learn how to braille decimal numbers and
money signs.
4. Using the Numeric Mode you will learn how to braille decimal numbers
and money signs.
5. You will complete and submit the homework assignment for Module 4
outlined at the end of the Module.

Quotation Marks
The following table summarizes the braille forms for quotation marks.

Sometimes it is easier to memorize when these characters are aligned within a
table.
For others, a method for memorizing is to associate the formations with "lower
celled" letters h and j. In some way these give the visual appearance of enclosing
something.
And to create a single quotation mark, just precede them these lowered letters by
a dot 6.
Follow print for placement.
Enclosure Marks
Enclosure marks require 2 cells.
Unified English Braille makes the learning of related forms easy by creating
related "families". Here are some tips that will help you remember this table.
** -- the type of enclosure is located in the first cell

-- the opening or closing character is placed in the second cell

THE NESTING CONCEPT
Simply explained, this is how we understand the order by which enclosure
symbols and indicators are placed in passages.
The Nesting Concept means that the passage/sentence is closed (with symbols
and indicators) in the reverse order in which it was opened. Look at the following
sentence. The double quotation marks begin and end the enclosed passage
while the single quotation marks enclose the word juice.
"Does Baby want 'juice?'" he asks.

SYMBOLS
The Decimal Point 4 (dots 2-5-6)
Similar to the symbol for the period, the decimal point is formed by dots 2-5-6.
Use the numeric indicator and follow print for its placement.

The Dollar Symbol @s (dots 4, 2-3-4)
The dollar sign is placed in the same location as it is placed in print. It takes 2
cells to form. Remember to use the numeric indicator.

Like the dollar sign, 2 cells are required to form this sign. Also think of where it is
placed in print and this is the same location in braille. Remember to use the
numeric indicator.
