Tutorial 01

The document is a tutorial sheet for a Digital Signal Processing course at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, detailing various problems related to analog signals, sampling rates, and system outputs. It includes tasks such as determining minimum sampling rates, discrete-time signals from sampled signals, Nyquist rates, periodicity of sinusoids, and system outputs under specific conditions. The problems require analytical skills in signal processing concepts and calculations.

Tutorial Sheet-01 [Jan 2026]
22EET352 Sub: Digital Signal Processing and Applications (DSPA)
1. Consider the analog signal
𝑥𝑎 (𝑡) = 5 cos 200𝜋𝑡
a) Determine the minimum sampling rate required to avoid aliasing.
b) If the above signal is sampled at 𝐹𝑠 = 400 𝐻𝑧, Determine the discrete-time signal.
c) If the above signal is sampled at 𝐹𝑠 = 150 𝐻𝑧, Determine the discrete-time signal.
2. Consider the analog signal
𝑥𝑎 (𝑡) = 5 cos 2000𝜋𝑡 + 7 sin 6000𝜋𝑡 + 14 cos 15000𝜋𝑡
a) Determine the Nyquist rate of the signal.
b) If the above signal is sampled at 𝐹𝑠 = 5000 𝐻𝑧, Determine the discrete-time signal.
c) What is the analog signal that can be reconstructed from the sampled signal?

3. Consider the analog signal

𝑥𝑎 (𝑡) = 5 cos 100𝜋𝑡 + 2 sin 250𝜋𝑡
T = 5 ms and 𝑇́ = 1 ms

Determine the output.

4. Determine which of the following sinusoids are periodic and compute their
fundamental period.
30𝑛
(a) cos 0.01𝜋𝑛 (b) cos 𝜋 105 (c) cos 3 𝜋𝑛 (d) sin 3𝑛

5. Determine the 𝐹0 of the following signal if the signal is sampled at 22050 Hz.

6. Consider a system described by

𝑛

𝑦(𝑛) = ∑ 𝑥(𝑘)
𝑘= −∞
It is excited by the sequence x(n) = nu(n) from the instance n = 0.
Determine the system output under the condition that:
(i) It is initially relaxed
(ii) Initial condition is y(-1) =1
