ABSTRACT
This is introduces a new converter called re-number of
conversion stages, thereby configurable solar converter
(RSC) for photovoltaic (PV)battery application,
particularly utility-scale PV-battery application. The main
concept of the new converter is to use a single-stage
three-phase grid-tie solar PV converter to perform dc/ac
and dc/dc operations. This converter solution is appealing
for PV-battery application, because it minimizes the
improving efficiency and reducing cost, weight, and
volume.
EXISTING SYSTEM
Existing PV-Battery Power Conversion System
Concept
•Conventional PV-battery integration uses multi-stage converters
•Separate DC/DC converter for PV array and battery
•Independent DC/AC inverter for grid connection
System Layout
•PV Array → DC/DC Converter → DC Bus → Inverter → Grid
•Battery → Bidirectional DC/DC Converter → DC Bus
•Control system coordinates PV, battery, and grid interface
Limitations
•Higher conversion losses (multiple stages)
•Increased system cost and size
•Complex control and synchronization
•Reduced overall efficiency compared to single-stage RSC
PROPOSED SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Overview
Concept
•Combines PV array, battery, and grid in one converter stage
•Performs both DC/DC (PV Battery) and DC/AC (PV/Battery Grid)
operations
•Enables flexible energy flow: PV → Grid, PV → Battery, Battery →
Grid, PV+Battery → Grid
System Layout
•PV Array → Reconfigurable Solar Converter (RSC) → Grid
•Battery Bidirectional DC Link
•Control System ensures seamless switching, protection, and grid
compliance
Key Benefits
•Efficiency Boost: fewer conversion stages, reduced losses
•Cost Reduction: less hardware, smaller footprint
•Flexibility: multiple energy flow paths in one system
•Grid Stability: battery smooths PV fluctuations
•Scalability: suitable for solar farms & microgrids
