This module gives the Installation procedure for routing system cables from the examination room to the
technical room.

2.2 Using Color Codes with Cables
1. Cables are marked with colors.
2. Each cabinet has its own color.
3. The color is indicated on the cabling
and earthing diagrams.

4. Find the drawing of the technical room in the

project book.
5. Use this drawing to find the location of the
cabinets.
6. Write the cabinet color on the rear cover or on
the wall.
7. Route cables according their color coding.

Some items are not and will not be color coded: HT cables, oil hoses, chiller hoses, and external
interfaces (DVD, Injector, Printer, and so on).
The subsequent color coding has been applied (refer also to upper part of cabling diagram).

3.1 Using Isolation Materials

1. To prevent ground loops, the entire X-ray
system has to be isolated from building
construction parts.
2. Use isolation materials during installation.

3.2 Connect the Erroneous Ground Alarm Device

1. The ground connections are shown on the
grounding diagram.

Protective Conductor Bar (PPCB) and the M
and E cabinets are made in advance.

3. Find the Protective Conductor Bar (PCB)

and the Philips Protective Conductor Bar
(PPCB).

 4. Remove the connection between the PCB
and the PPCB.

5. One of the two kinds of erroneous ground

alarm devices can be used.

between the removed wire and the PPCB.
7. Check the erroneous ground alarm device.

and interconnect the PCB and the PPCB.

4.1 Connecting Ground Cables First
1. For systems in China:
1:13 Put the rating label nearby the hospital
mains connection
(the figure shows an example of the rating
label. The information on the label can vary)

NOTE

For China only:

2. Connect green/yellow ground cables to the

M- and E-cabinets

cabinet rear covers.

4. Connect the remaining green/yellow cables

to the cabinets.

 5. For each unit, connect the green/yellow
cables first.

6. Connect the cables, according to their

labeling.

7. When the erroneous ground alarm device

sounds, there is a short-circuit to the
building construction:
 Remove the connector that causes the
((( )))
short-circuit;
 Leave the connector unplugged until
the problem is solved.

this connector on the drawing.

 9. When all cables are plugged in and no
erroneous ground alarm device sounds,
remove the erroneous ground alarm device.
10. Install again the connection between the
PCB and the PPCB.
11. Do the ground bonding test.

4.2 Storing Superfluous Length

1. Cables are delivered in standard lengths.

Do not shorten the cables.
2. If cables are too long, do not coil them.

3. Store superfluous length in cable ducts on

the ceiling or under the floor.

NOTE

Do not store superfluous length

in the M-cabinet rear cover.

4. Make sure to use bifilar windings and

bundle the cables using cable binders or
tape.

and hoses.

5. Install cables and hoses as shown in the

figure.

4.3 Installing Cables in the M-cabinet and Cabinet Rear Cover

1. For maintenance and repair access, use a
cable loop.
2. The cable loop must not touch the floor,
when the cabinet is positioned against the
rear cover.
3. Put the cabinet 1.6 meter from the rear
cover.

4. Remove the cables from the M-cabinet

brackets.

 5. Begin with the mains cables of the
M-cabinet.
6. For EMC reasons, use cable binders at a
distance of 20 cm

7. Connect the mains cables at the mains

block.

8. Install the mains cable with a noose to the

M-cabinet bracket.

9. Install the other side to the bracket in the

cabinet rear cover in a provisional way.

 10. The cable height is about 65 cm above the
floor.
11. Complete the cable installation in the
cabinet rear cover.
12. Install the other cables in the same way as
the mains cable.

13. To install the cables:

 Separate mains, ground, and signal
cables.
 Attach the cables hanging downwards
from the cable binder in the rear cover
and in the cabinet.

Systems up to R8.1

14. Install the cables for the SIB box unit and
the Flat detector unit through the M-
cabinet.

15. Connect the connectors at the SIB box unit

and the flat detector unit.

 4.4 Connecting Video Cables to the Converters

CAUTION

For EMC reasons each video cable, that is connected to a converter via RJ45 connector
(Display port dongle or DVI to RJ45 transmitter/ receiver converter), must have special EMC
material.
Display port to dongles can be found in the M-cabinet. DVI to RJ45 transmitter/ receiver
converters can be found in the M-cabinet, B-cabinet, MCS, Control Room Connection Box
(CRCB), Peripheral cabinet (R-cabinet), and the control room.

The figure shows the special EMC material.

1. Install each connector (RJ45 connector) of the

video cable with special EMC material. Install

 2. Connect the cable including the EMC material
to the transmitter/receiver (single or dual DVI)
DVI converters or to the Display Port
converters.

 Additional EMC material is included in the

Service Kit V4.
 EMC material is also available as FRU set

 4. Install the cables on the inside of the lower
cable bracket on the left and right sides (refer
to the picture at step 5).

5. To relieve the cables, use cable binders. This

is necessary for all cables used in the M, R,
2R, and B-cabinets.

6. After the installation is complete, install the air

channel.

 7. Be careful with the wiring when you install the
air channel. Do not damage the cables.

8. Complete the installation with a Velcro strap

(delivered in the collection box of the system)
to prevent cable damage when the M-cabinet
is closed

9. Make sure that the cable depth in the cabinet

rear cover is less than 5 cm.

more than 5 cm, install the cabinet rear cover
extender.

11. Close the M-cabinet.

4.5 Installing Cables in Control Room Connection Box (CRCB)

CAUTION

For EMC reasons the cables

must be bundled per
connection location.

1. Connect the ground cables.

2. Install and bundle the ground cables as
shown in the picture.

3. Connect the power cables.

4. Install and bundle the power cables as
shown in the picture.

 5. Connect the signal cables.
6. Install and bundle the signal cables as
shown in the picture.
7. Connect the Ethernet cables to the
switch.

8. Install the Ethernet cable bundle along

the metal housing of the CRCB and
cross the earth cable bundle diagonal
(refer to the figure).
9. Install the Ethernet cable bundle along
the metal housing of the CRCB and as
far away as possible from the other
cables until the point where the bundles
leave the CRCB.

10. Install all cable bundles, including cables

from KM extender (mouse, keyboard,
and UTP), except the Ethernet cables
connected to the switch together as one
large bundle.
11. Bundle the Ethernet cables separately
from the other cable bundle to at least
50 cm outside the CRCB.

1. Use soapstone in cable hoses. The
soapstone is delivered in a plastic bottle.

2. Before you pull the cables into ducts, tape

the cabling to one composition.

4. Do not use cable binders in inaccessible

cable ducts or other inaccessible
locations.

 5. Put high tension cables and X-ray cooling
hoses on top of other cables.

6. Do not use short curves in cooling hoses;

this obstructs the oil flow.

7. Install fiber optic cables last and handle

them with extreme care!

8. Prevent sharp bends of fiber optic cables
where the cables leave the hose.

9. Do not touch the surface of the glass fiber

or clean the surface of the connector.

the Ethernet switches.

1. The Stator cable has 2 ferrite cores
that are already installed in the factory
(for EMC reasons).
Be careful when you pull this cable
through the cable ducts.
