Summary

When a rift between worlds tears open, Lukas Askanier and his Eszett companions are thrust
from their 19th-century world into the lands of Roan Emperor. With their knowledge of
modern science, politics, and religion— they struggle to adapt to a realm living far behind
but also forward than theirs.

In the midst of navigating strange customs and forging uneasy alliances, Lukas finds himself
drawn to the enigmatic Cale Henituse—a man whose calm detachment and thinking mirror
his own. What begins as reluctant cooperation slowly deepens into a rare bond neither of
them expected.

Or,

Cale lounged at the Super Rock Villa, basking in the peace he’d fought so hard for. ‘White
Star? Gone. Hunters? Gone. None can interrupt my slacker life anymore!”

Then came a knock.

He opened the door, only to find a group of unfamiliar people—clearly not from this world—
staring at him in awe.

Cale blinked once.

“…Fuck.”

Notes

TCF— Set after canon.

Machasal— After 300+ chapters.

Sorry for the fact that Lukas kinda doesn't look like himself.
Chapter 2: Authors Note
Chapter Summary

I am not dropping this, but…

First of all, thank you so much for the kudos on the cover! I honestly didn’t expect that, and it
means a lot.

I know it’s been months with no chapter, and I’m sorry about that. The truth is, I’ve lost
interest in Machasal over time, and I’ve also realized I can’t really write romance— it just
makes me cringe, which I didn’t expect when I started planning this fic.

Still, I wanted to give something back to those who showed support. So instead of a full,
connected story, I’ll be posting small, plotless chapters.

They won’t be heavily developed, and since my memory of Machasal details is spotty now
because of my terrible memory, the characterization may not be perfect. Not to mention I
might be biased towards TCF characters as they are my blorbo.

If you still want to read, I’d be grateful— just please be gentle if things feel off.

Thanks for understanding.

I will update a chapter very soon.

Chapter 3: The Strangers at the Door
Chapter Notes

First chapter in months. Sorry about that everyone.

See the end of the chapter for more notes

The afternoon light casted long shadows across the garden of Super Rock Villa. Cale
Henituse was sprawled on a lounge chair, a glass of lemonade untouched beside him,
watching Raon chase On and Hong through the flower beds.

This was peace. Hard-won, well-deserved peace.

The White Star was gone. The Hunters were gone. No one was currently trying to destroy the
continent. Alberu had been too busy with crown duties to bother him for three whole days.
Choi Han was off somewhere training. Ron was... somewhere, probably hunting ‘rabbits’, but
Cale had chosen not to think about that.

He closed his eyes, ready to take a peaceful nap.

But of course, the universe hates to see him in peace.

Because out of nowhere, the air in front of him split open with a sound like tearing fabric.

Cale's eyes snapped open. A jagged rift of purple-black light hung in the middle of his
garden, crackling with energy. The children stopped their playing abruptly, ready to protect
Cale from whatever danger was coming. But they stopped when Cale gestured them to not
come any closer.

As Cale made sure the children were at a safe distance, he looked back at the portal.
A person tumbled out.

Then another. And another. And another.

By the time the rift sealed itself, seven people were piled in a heap on Cale's carefully
maintained lawn— making the frown on Cale's face deepen.

The first one to move was a young man with black hair and startling pink eyes. He was on his
feet in an instant, scanning the surroundings with a focus that Cale recognized immediately—
someone used to assessing threats. Tall, pale, dressed in clothes that looked like they
belonged to a different century.

The second was a platinum-haired figure who had apparently landed on top of the first and
was now laughing as if they were playing some kind of games. "That was fun! Let's do it
again!"

"No," said the pink-eyed one.

"Awww."

A blonde emerged from the pile, checking on the others for any injuries. A redhead girl
(boy?) with a sharp face was offering help to a green-eyed, light-brown-haired person who
looked confused. A black-haired man with golden eyes sat up slowly, his expression a
perpetual ^^ that didn't change even as he dusted himself off. The last one— dark-haired,
unremarkable except for the complete blankness of his face— simply stood and waited for
others to calm down.

Seven people. All around eighteen or nineteen. All dressed in clothing that was
simultaneously formal and foreign.
Cale remained in his chair. He didn't stand. Standing would imply he was willing to engage
with whatever this was.

He wasn't.

The pink-eyed one— clearly the leader— turned to face him. Their eyes met.

Cale's first thought: ‘He looks like the rational one among them, just like me.’

His second thought: ‘Why do they all look like that?’

Because they did. Every single one of them was... striking. Not just handsome, there was
something different about them. Too symmetrical. Too polished. Like someone had designed
them rather than born them.

The pink-eyed one stepped forward. His movements were measured, deliberate. "Please don't
panic. We mean no harm. We just accidentally got here."

Cale stared at him. Then at the others. Then at the spot where the rift had been.

He thought about the nap he'd been about to take. About the lemonade getting warm. About
how he'd specifically chosen this spot because nothing ever happened here.

"…Fuck," he said.

---

The pink-eyed one introduced himself as Lukas Askanier. The platinum-haired one who'd
laughed was Elias Hohenzollern. The blonde was Leonard Wittelsbach. The redhead was
Julia Zähringen (so it's a girl?). The green-eyed one was Ulrike Luise Kleist. The black-
haired one with the perpetual ^^ was Narke Farnese. The blank-faced one was Heike
Einsiedel.

They were, apparently, from another world. They'd been at their academy when the rift
opened and pulled them through.

Cale listened to all of this while standing in his doorway, making no move to invite them
inside.

Raon had recovered from his initial shock and was now flying in slow circles above the
group, examining them with undisguised curiosity. On and Hong peeked out from Cale's
shoulder.

After Lukas finished explaining everything— as much as he could— he waited for Cale's
response.

And waited.

And waited.

And kept waiting.

Meanwhile, Cale considered his options. He could close the door. Pretend this never
happened. Maybe they'd find their own way back. They all seem smart after all.

But they were standing in his garden. And if someone else found them— Alberu, or worse,
someone less friendly— it would become a problem. A huge problem. A "why didn't you tell
us" problem.

He sighed, already regretting the decision. "Come in. Don't touch anything."
---

The villa's main room was large enough to accommodate them all. The foreigners arranged
themselves on the couches and chairs with such an ease as if they came to visit an old friend's
house instead of a stranger’s.

Elias immediately flopped onto the longest couch, dragging Lukas down with him. Leonard
sat at the end, posture perfect. The others also made themselves comfortable.

Cale stood by the fireplace, arms crossed. The children had positioned themselves behind
him, ready to attack these weird people if they did something funny.

"You said you're from another world," Cale said. "What kind of world?"

"Germany," Ulrike offered brightly. "It's in Europe. On a place named Earth."

Cale's expression didn't change, but internally he filed that away. Earth. They were from
Earth. A different Earth from his, obviously— his Earth hadn't had magic, well, not the kind
of magic Raon said they had— but still.

"How did you get here?"

"We were experimenting with some spells when suddenly a dimensional rift appeared,"
Narke said.

"You seem calm about this."

Narke's smile widened a fraction. "Why panic? It's interesting. And on top of that, we get to
have an exciting vacation in another world!"
Cale looked at Lukas, who was the only one who seemed to share his energy— calm but
responsible. "You're the leader?"

"I'm the one who usually leads alongside Leonard," Lukas said. "They listen sometimes."

"He's the smart one among us," Elias added while clinging to Lukas back. "We keep him
around for his brain."

Cale studied them. They were all watching him too. He noticed the way their eyes lingered
on his face, a little too long, a little too intently. It wasn't the usual look he got— the fear, the
awe, the "oh that's the esteemed commander" recognition. This was different. They looked...
enchanted.

He ignored it. "You need to go back as quickly as possible."

"We will," Lukas said. "Once we understand how. We don't intend to impose."

"You're already imposing." Cale said with a deadpan voice.

Elias snorted. Leonard's lips pressed together. Ulrike looked slightly apologetic.

Cale felt something tug at his sleeve. Raon had flown up beside him. "Human, they smell
strange. Not bad. Just... different."

"They're from another world. They're supposed to be different."

Raon considered this. Then he flew over to Lukas and hovered in front of his face. "You guys
smell unusual from the humans I know. Why is that?"
Lukas looked at the small, cute dragon. He never imagined dragons could be so cute. "I don't
know the answer, esteemed dragon."

"But not bad unusual. Just different unusual." Raon circled him once. "You're very calm. I
like calm humans. My human is calm too, except when he's causing trouble."

Cale made a sound that might have been a protest. No one acknowledged it.

At that moment, Ron appeared with a tray of lemonade. "We have so many guests today," he
said, setting the tray down. "How lovely."

"They're temporary," Cale said.

"That's good to know, young master."

The lemonade was distributed. Elias took his with both hands, drank half in one go, and
declared it "acceptable but alcohol will be nicer." Heike nodded in agreement, grimacing at
sour the taste.

Ron's smile didn't waver. "I'll see what I can do about that."

Cale watched the exchange, then turned his attention back to Lukas. The black-haired man
was looking at something Cale couldn't see— his eyes were focused on a point in the air,
pupils moving like he was reading.

Lukas was, in fact, reading Cale's status window.

He'd activated the ability as soon as they'd entered the villa, curious about the man who
helped them without any cautions. What he saw made him question if his skill was broken or
not.

Cale Henituse.

Grim Reaper?’

Lukas closed the window with a blank face.

He'd never seen a profile like this. Highest and lowest points coexisting. A walking
contradiction. Someone who was simultaneously at death's door and mentally unbreakable.
Unlucky and lucky. Fragile and powerful.

‘What kind of life produces this?’

He looked at Cale with new eyes. The man was leaning against the fireplace, arms still
crossed, expression unreadable. Long red hair, pale skin, a frame that looked like it might
break if someone breathed on it too hard.

For the first time since arriving, Lukas felt something other than cautious. Curiosity. And,
buried deep, something that might have been respect.

---

Dinner was served in the villa's dining room. Beacrox had outdone himself— a full spread of
roasted meat, vegetables, bread, desserts, fruits and wine that made Elias's eyes light up.

They sat around the long table. Cale at the head, the children clustered around him. The
foreigner group filled the other side.

Raon was perched on Cale's shoulder, reaching for the meat. On and Hong sat on either side
of Cale, plates ready.
Cale began slicing. He held a piece to Raon's mouth, then another to On, then another to
Hong. It was practiced, automatic, something he'd done a thousand times.

Lukas was staring.

Not at the children who were kittens a moment ago, but at Cale. He was still processing the
status window. Trying to reconcile the titles— Grim Reaper, Emperor of the Sea,
Commander— with the delicate man patiently feeding three children.

Cale felt the stare and looked up.

Lukas was watching him with an intensity that would have been unnerving if Cale hadn't
spent years around people who watched him.

Cale looked at Lukas for a while, then at his plate, then back at Lukas. After thinking for a
while, he picked up a piece of meat and held it out toward Lukas.

"Do you want some?"

The table went silent.

Lukas stared at the meat. Then at Cale. Then back at the meat.

He wasn't in the mood for meat. And he especially didn't need to be fed. He was eighteen
years old for God’s sake! But Cale was looking at him with that stoic expression, his
extended arm was trembling a little from weakness.

Thinking that refusing would be rude in this situation, Lukas leaned forward. He took the
meat with his teeth, and ate it without a word.
Elias choked on his wine while trying to not laugh. Leonard's eyebrow twitched. Heike
continued eating, oblivious or uncaring.

Cale, satisfied, went back to feeding the children.

Elias leaned toward Lukas, voice barely a whisper, he was grinning from ear to ear. "You just
got mom'd."

Lukas did not dignify that with a response. His ears were slightly pink. It was the lighting.
Yeah, probably the lighting.

---

After dinner, Julia suddenly approached Cale.

He was standing by the window, looking out at the garden. The children had been put to bed.
The Eszett group had dispersed— Elias was trying to convince Ron to give him more wine,
Leonard was reading some books, the others were scattered around the room.

Julia walked up and stopped beside Cale.

He glanced at her. "Something wrong?"

"No. I just—" She hesitated which didn't seem to suit her. Then she (he?) raised her hand.
"Give me a high-five."

Cale stared at her hand. Then at her face.

High-five. She wants a high-five.

He knew what a high-five was. He'd lived on modern Earth for over thirty years. But no one
in this world had ever asked him for one. The gesture was completely foreign here.

Julia was still waiting, expression earnest.

Cale slowly raised his hand. Julia slapped it with enthusiasm, the sound sharp in the quiet
room. Cale tried to not winch at the impact.

"That was good," she said. "We'll practice."

"Practice what? Slapping hands?"

"High-fiving." She nodded with a playful smile. "You'll get better."

Cale opened his mouth to point out that he didn't need to get better at something he'd never
done before in this world and never planned to do again. But Julia was already walking away,
red hair swinging, looking pleased with herself.

‘What just happened?’ (a/n: Nothing Cale. She just wanted to give a high-five to the prettiest
human she had seen.)

---

Later that night, Lukas couldn't sleep.

He'd been given a room on the third floor, a small but comfortable space with a window
overlooking the garden. The bed was soft, the blankets warm, but his mind was still turning
over the day's events.
This new world. The status window. The contradictions. The man who was probably not as
delicate as he seems.

He stepped out onto the garden. The air was cool, the stars brighter than anything he'd seen in
his world. No city lights to dim them.

Someone was already there.

Cale was leaning against the wall, looking up at the sky. He didn't turn when Lukas
approached.

"Can't sleep?" Cale asked.

"No."

Silence. Lukas considered leaving. But something made him stay. He moved to stand beside
Cale, leaving space between them.

"Your world is different from ours," Lukas said eventually.

Cale shrugged. "Most worlds are different from each other."

"We don't have stars like this. Too much light."

"Progress."

They kept making small talk. From the difference in their world to their friends.
"My friend bullies me."

Cale glanced at him. "Which one?"

"Leonard. He trains me until I can't move. Says it's for my own good." Lukas's voice was dry.
"He beats me until I'm too exhausted to speak, then tells me I'm improving."

Cale snorted. The sound was almost amused. "My hyung bullies me too."

"Your... hyung?"

"Older brother. Not by blood." Cale's expression shifted into something that might have been
fondness. "He won't let me retire. Keeps giving me responsibilities. Says I can be lazy 'after
we fix everything.'" He paused. "It's been years. I think he's lying."

Lukas found his words amusing. "It sounds like he cares about you."

"He does. Annoyingly." Cale looked at Lukas directly for the first time. "Yours too."

"Yes." Lukas thought about Leonard's relentless training, the way he pushed until Lukas
almost fainted, but also the first one to help him when he was in danger. "He does."

They stood together in the dark. The stars wheeled overhead. Neither spoke, but the silence
was comfortable. Companionable.

When Lukas finally went back inside, he felt lighter than he had all day.
He checked Cale's status window one more time before sleeping.

He closed the window and went to sleep.

Tomorrow, they would figure out how to go home. Tonight, he would sleep.
